My preschooler the back seat driver

G: Daddy, that sign says 55
K: Yep
G: The speed limit is 55
K: Yep you're right
G: You're going faster than 55, you're going more than 60
K: Well I don't want to slow traffic
G: You need to follow the rules or you will get a ticket
K: I'm going the same speed as everyone else
G: They're all breaking the rules. Just because they do it doesn't mean you have to do it.
K: ?!?!?!??!

Your preschooler is unfortunately too young to understand the difference between a victimless crime and a victim-crime :(

Place the shoe on the other foot. You take the back seat, let him drive, and you critique him.

I had me one of those! Now his eyes are either affixed to his Nintendo DS or the in-flight movie. :o

Heh yeah, it's not a matter of victimless crimes or whatever, it's trying to be consistent and setting the example. I'm moving his car seat back to behind me from now.

Putting him behind you isn't the answer.
If you want to set an example DON"T SPEED!!

Your only saving 30 seconds on your drive anyway, if that, by speeding.

Danny

It's hard to do when everyone in the slow lane is doing 65 in a 55.

K: I know where I'm going
G: but mommy goes that way
K: but daddy goes this way
G: I like the way mommy goes
K: *^%^&&^%**(((*&(*&%%

Your preschooler displays very advanced logic and conceptual thinking skills. You should be very proud.

Kuan thats great and thanks for sharing this. Something tells me he's going to grow up and be a Highway Patrolman.....

SwampYankee 04-09-2009 10:09 AM

My son used to nark me out to the wife.

"Mom, dad was doing 68 and the speed limit was 65!"

In "Raising Arizona", John Goodman placed a child strapped in a baby seat on the roof of his station wagon. Just a thought.

Just got it again from the 4 year old

Daughter - Daddy, wasn't that a stop sign?

Daddy - Yes honey, but this is a diesel:D
