92 sel 600 GONE!! Sad story.
Hey guys, I enjoyed this website and the little get togethers we had but sadly today in Hayward california myself and 5 other cars were slammed into by a drunk driver heading towards us at over 70 mph. He clipped a car in the intersection which then hit a hummer and the drunk drivers car slammed into 2 cars before slamming into the front of my car. No one was hurt surprisingly, but my car looks like it's totaled. Sucks as I had some good times in that car and met some good people during the time I had the car. Just wanted to let you guys know.
Thanks for the memories.... below are some pics of the car. |
Trying to add the pics hopefully they work.
Pics arent working here is a link to the other thread that has pics... :( http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/tech-help/250019-hey-guys-92-sel-600-gone-sad-story.html |
Condolences. Glad everyone is alright, and your Mercedes did it's job and kept you safe.
Time to shop for another:) Wow, that looks like a hard hit. That great car took a real shot for you. |

I hope you get another one that gives you many years of driving pleasure. |
THanks, luckily my car was the 3rd car to get hit. But it took some pretty serious damage. My leg is a little sore I think I must of banged it up against my door but other then that everything seems fine as of now. It was crazy seeing that driver flying that fast head on, he barely missed a pedestrian in the middle of the road. The scene was weird the guy got out of his truck ( the suspect) and he started yelling how fun that was, and started mumbling in some weird tongue, then tried swinging on people. That was just the begining the guy ran in the middle of the road and layed there until the police got there, I guess the police had to tazer him and take him to jail. The guy not only was drunk but was SERIOUSLY on something else.
Crazy experience, now I guess I deal with the horrible task of the insurance company. |
that sux Will, I am really sorry this happened, but you experienced the absolutely unarguable reason to drive a big Mercedes. You walked away from the ultimate crash.
We can help with the insurance questions here, for starters keep a diary daily f how you feel, it will help with the insurance settlement payout. Another W140 on your shopping list now? |
Thanks Jim. I'm not sure what I'm going to get yet. I'm leaning towards some kind of gas saver kind of car right now, but we will see. I'm going to start applying for sports reporter jobs in other states so a car right now might not be something I want to dump money into. But having some kind of car will help out on the normal things like getting around to the store and stuff like that. Just depends on how long it will take the insurance company to pay and if his company will let me get a rental for a little bit.
So I guess I got to wait and see. |
As soon as you find out he has insurane get a rental. If he is at fault, you are entitled to "loss of use" for sure.
Ask the rental bill for your rental car be "direct billed" to the adverse party's insurance company That way, YOU can start driving the rental now, to get around and you will NEVER have to pay for it. Start a paper trail by visiting a doctor to be sure your leg is ok. And again, make sure THAT too is direct billed to the other guy's insurance company so you won't have to pay anything, the accident was NOT your fault, why should YOU have to pay anything and then fool around trying to get your money back? In the economy these days, the big W140 cars go pretty cheap, so you could buy a nice S500 or 500SEL, or a S420 etc in real great shape for a modest price. Not the cost of gas so much, but the cost dollar per mile to run a car should be your goal. As said, the big Mercedes saved your life, pretty nice reason to get another one, I would think Good luck in your hunt. Take you time, since they are giving you a free rental. The cost will add up for that, and if the car is totalled they will want to pay up fast in their claims settlement payoff to you. To be safe settle separately and fairly for injury and car damage. Sometimes companies are generous on paying for the car so they can be cheap on injury payout in the accident settlement process; don't let them get over on you |
I would definitely like to do the direct billing but how would I do something like that before the paperwork is in. I'm hearing it might be a week or a couple weeks before the police report is in and info is exchanged between my company and his insurance company. How would I go about trying to get his company to pay for everything now? I would definitely do that if I could.

I'm sorry to hear about this, but fotunately you were in a Mercedes and not a Hyundai or Saturn or something. I was thinking about the young pitcher whol was killed this week by a drunk driver. You can get another car. He won't have another chance to pitch.

Anyone who has collision insurance - check your policy for rental coverage, it is not expensive, and can really help if you get hit by the all-too-common idiot with no insurance |

Yea I'm not sure what I'm going to get or do yet. I hope by tomorrow or tuesday I will be in a rental car. That will at least take some of the stress off. Then I guess I will have to wait and see about what they offer me for my car and everything. I will definitely keep you guys updated.
Thanks for all the responses and advice. |
I guess somebody needs to explain to me why would anyone own an S-Class Mercedes-Benz, then drive a friggin' econo-box every day! The last half of the previous sentence was exclaimed as Sam Kinneson would scream it.
I'm either in my E-Class E300TD with six air-bags, OR, my #14,000+ pound dual-airbag diesel-motorcoach. If you're going to whack me, you're going to have to really be trying to get me..... I don't get it.......but I am certain of what my life is worth. |
