Any european members here?
My parents are in France, taking care of my grandmother. They need a car, but don't know how long they'll be there, and don't want to spend much money. I'm trying to convince them to pick up a 240, 300D or SD. Anyone know what those are going for in Europe? My dad could probably go to Germany or England to pick one up if they are cheaper than in France (which according to the nurse they hired is the case). TIA

try www.ebay.de or www.ebay.fr for price comparisons. I would think Germany and France would be similar. the french Ebay is pretty sparse, and I dont speak any french so it was a hassle for me.

I really don't know the prices in Western Europe, but I suspect that they are high relative to everything else that may be available. This is simply because they (W123 diesels) seem to be so scarce there. Now, in Eastern Europe, that may be another story- there seemed to be plenty there last time I was in Ukraine (2006).

The 300SD was not sold in europe. They might be able to find a 240 or a naturally aspirated 300D.....but I doubt it. They'd be better off buying a newer golf or something.

Thanks. They just need something cheap and reliable. I thought the W123 would work out.

Wouldnt recommend buying a car in the UK because of right side steering wheel.
If you're looking for a low price MB, try finding a W201: these are bullit proof and still much around. Except for W124, all else is trouble. However, being in France, I say a french car is probably the best choice for a good price. A Big size Peugeot 407 or 607 is not bad. Good luck

Wife, who is currently in Odessa Ukraine, reports that there are few W123s now, though they were plentiful 3 years ago. Then again, she may not be looking for them as I was at the time....
