97 Chevy 2WD truck - how to remove front springs?
I'm studying up on replacing the front springs in a 97 Chevy 2WD truck. alldatadiy.com says to remove the LCA inboard bolts, various boards say to disconnect the ball joint.
Questions: 1) I take it there's no way around removing the LCA. 2) Are the LCA inboard bolts cam bolts? 3) If I go the balljoint route, does this style remover work? I've had no success with pickle forks. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/pho...9899/99849.gif 4) What kind of spring compressor is appropriate for this job? alldatadiy.com says to use a chain. Thanks, Sixto |
I can help you with a 77 280e....

pull the shock and break the bottom balljoint loose while supporting the control arm with a jack. Then let the jack down slowly and the arm will swing down and the spring should fall out.
