So were they admitting to transporting heroine to bankroll the efforts there?

JollyRoger 04-15-2009 03:53 PM

Man, you got my all worked up thinking that Bush has sicced the CIA on Al Franken, and what I get is a history lesson. Darn.

Had a student in the late 80's who had been (was?) in a branch of the military during the years Reagan was waging war against Nicarauga. He claimed that he routinely guarded shipments of drugs coming into LA(?) on military planes from Central America. I had no reason to disbelieve him.

Of course. The Reagan administration certainly would not resort to illegal means to fund an illegal war.

Mistress 04-16-2009 03:40 PM

Iran Contra....I don't remember.

Everyone knows that the US military and intelligence agencies are beyond reproach, in all matters. Anyone who would suggest or claim to have seen any malfeasance is a liar. End of story.

I can elaborate on that, I was in the Army in the late 80's and regularly flew with assets in and out of many tiny countries way down south and I have heard the legend many times. What the story tellers did not know is I was based in LA and knew the down south flights inside and out. I concluded that they were full of crap but listened anyway because I always lend an ear for a free beer.

He knows the bureaucracy, it's hard to keep a secret and conspiracies are impossible to keep a lid on.

cmac2012 04-16-2009 04:15 PM

By that logic, the secret of drugs smuggled out on CIA assets is no longer a secret.

Mistress 04-16-2009 04:20 PM

I'm alittle fuzzy on this but help me out here will ya. Not too long ago there was a thread about some internal investigation committee about how the US defined waterboarding as torture and we did not condone nor did we use those types of tactics. Now we have this article that says it's o.k. to do this and we allowed the CIA to do this? They need to make up their minds, we do or we don't.

No, by that logic if the CIA were smuggling drugs people would be in jail.
