Henry Rollins fans?
Just ran across the Uncut series from Henry. Some good stuff. I like his take on some pretty drastic places.
Anyone else watch any of these?

I saw him in concert, as part of Black Flag. That was during their "Slip it In" tour.

Black Flag rocked!! And who would have thought that the lead singer would turn out to be such a literate and well spoken individual. The piece on South Africa is particularly good.

oh come on!!!!
henry rollings was NOT the lead singer for black flag. he stepped in to fill that position and ruined the band. i was just going to say that i hadn't heard anything by him as he has not been forgiven but then i read this rubbish. please, listen to early black flag, then maybe the first couple rollins vocals albums, and then compare them to that later junk. barf. also, rollins should have stayed in S.O.A., his first punk band. they were amazing, even if they were straight edge. dez forever! ha!

Ruin the band? I think not. I like them before and with Rollins. It's not the same band, as far as I'm concerned. You might as well compare Black Flag with Rollins with the Circle Jerks.
When I saw them, Saccharine Trust opened. They kicked serious butt, setting the stage for Rollins and company. Rollins steps out wearing a pair of blue shorts - either swimming trunks or boxers, I'm not sure which - and that's all he had on other than tattoos. Seriously great show, for only about 300 people. Small under-21 club (but there were tons of empty half-pint bottles in the bathroom). Towards the end of the show, there was a patron who was apparently unhappy with the performance. He shouted some stuff into the microphone and spit on Rollins' face. By this time, a cop at the side of the stage started walking toward the center. Rollins sang the last line of the song (which may have even been intended as the last line), jumps into the pit, and all I can see is his arm rising above the crowd as he pummels the guy. If you haven't seen him in person, let me tell you that Rollins is a BIG guy. Next thing I know, the cop stepped down into the pit to break things up. I figured that it was a good time to leave, so I did. |

At least Henry didn't join in a ridiculous 'reunion' tour with those guys. Nothing more sickening than a bunch of old farts trying to recapture their lost youth, especially through punk music. I was always more of a DK fan anyway. Jello is also a pretty motivational speaker.

DK were great, and mostly because of jello. and there couldn't have been a worse old farts reunion tour if you tried. well....there could probably be worse. i shared the stage with Chaos U.K. on their reunion tour and that was pretty ugly looking. then my old band played with Vice Squad on their reunion tour.....that was just sad.

I've never seen DK, and somewhat wish that I had. I do like their music. Much more so than BF.

I did both see the Dead Kennedys and Black Flag, back in Amsterdam. Both those shows were extremely violent. Especially Black Flag: the opening act were some of the band members and there roadies dressed up as hippies. The audience went nuts, skins and punks beating each other up...a hippie chick lost all here clothes by a pack of skins...Great shows nevertheless!

What band were you in, anyone I'd have heard of? I mostly work with the bluegrass crowd these days, great music and even better people.

Gotta love Black Flag's "First Four Years" cd..I think there are 3 or 4 singers on there, lol. (that's the only one I had from them)
Keith Morris had quite an interesting voice

yes, if you want to hear dez recorded, check out "The First Four Years," he's got about 5 or 6 songs on there. Then listen to "Everything Went Black" where Dez has about 10 songs and Keith Morris has about 8 songs. Very good stuff, better than Rollins IMO, but i guess he didn't "ruin" the band .
as far as my old band, you would not have heard of us unless you lived in the upstate new york area from about 1999 to 2004 or 5. we were kind of the "go-to" band in the ithaca area as it's central to buffalo, syracuse, rochester, and (kind of) albany. a lot of bands would come through and we'd get on the bill with them, and could guarantee them a crowd, free beer, free food, and free shelter (and some of the other fringe benefits of being a rock n roller ). a few reciprocated and helped us put a decent tour together, played with a lot of "famous" punk bands, got to play at CBGB's when i was 22 years old, and got all the good and band things that come with being in a locally popular band and being a young, crazy band on tour. but as for the name, it is so ludicrously embarassing that i can't bear to say it. in my defense, i joined the band and had nothing to do with its inception and name choice. the founder and guitar player/singer is doing very well for himself in brooklyn now, touring in a popular metal band (HUGE in Turkey as their lead singer is Turkish born and might be the first famous metal musician from there) and touring in a decent punk band as well. i put it behind me and got my ***** together.
