MB 1000 SEL ???

Anyone know anything about these? Is it worth getting excited about?

All I could find about it so far was that they were not official MB products, but rather "upgraded" 560s by some aftermarket designer. Also, it said that most of them were send off to Saudi Arabia and other oil-rich nations at the time.

its just a badge on a fully optioned 500 or 560SEL. or just a badge on a pile of you know what. they could be bought at every corner gas station back in the 80's

Based on where it is being sold, that's a strong possibility

There was a stretched 1000SEL built by a company called Trasco but thats not one of them. If looks like it could be a real AMG though (The body kit and headlights look correct)

I sent the guy an email asking for some interior pictures. Man, I am getting more and more interested in it..but I can't have two cars right now. Too bad it isn't a diesel too! But I guess making it a diesel would basically be the antithesis of it being an AMG..depending if it has engine mods or not. It'd make a nice Sunday driver, nonetheless!

Well, looks like it's just a regular old AMG, as far as I can tell. No fancy TVs or bars on board

The cruise control stalk in in german! Is that rare? I don't know too much about 126s. I asked for the VIN but he said he's selling it for a friend and that I should call him with more questions. Oh well. Looks like it might have the reclining rear seat.

They do exist. Back in the late 80's when my dad bought a new benz, I went to the dealership to pick it up. This is was in Santiago, Chile. While receiving the car, 3 1000's came into the dealer. They were the president's cars. I had a nice look at them. Of course these were totally bullet proof. In fact, right after that, MB asked to borrow one for a show to show one of the most bullet proof cars that they ever made at the time.
