I heard a little bit about this from my NASA neighbor. There is an interesting theory on how life could be existent on the moons of the large planets, the constant gravitational pull and the resultant friction could be causing the cores of these moons to be very hot. If they are anything like Earth and covered with a layer of water, even if the surface temperture is in the -100 degree C range, there could be a subsurface ocean heated by the core under the surface ice sheet, and life in some form could possibly exist, much as it does under our Artic. We need to get satellites in orbit over the moons that are suspected of harboring life, I think the other biggee is Io, if IIRC, in orbit around Jupiter, and Titan, another moon of Saturn.

Hmmmmm. I knew about the possibility of water being there before this article but this research (to me) doesn't seem to verify that there is water there, only suggest it.

However, I wouldn't be one bit suprised if there were liquids on some of these moons.
