depression

i know i still have it alot better than most, but it seems like it never ends for me. ive been down alot lately and this mornings surprise is a new low. my mom bought me all my fishing gear for my 21st birthday in march. if it hadnt been for that i wouldn't have been able to afford it. i found that i was really enjoying it. on the weekends i could go a ways out to the real lake and when i had a bad day at work i could go to the local "lake" (more like pond) for an hour or two and feel better. they left my poles, but that was the cheaper part. i dont even have a rubber worm to my name now. i lost lures that my grandpa gave me many years ago,a leatherman ive had for many years, and everything else. i also now have to get a new window in the tacoma. im thankful to have a roof over my head and food in my mouth, i know alot of people dont have that now.it just seems like i cant catch a break

Keep your head up buddy. I have a few weeks left in Iraq (air natl guard) and I find myself only thinking of the negative. I know that I have a loving wife and 2 sons waiting for me, but sometimes I just get to thinking about all the things I screwed up, and how all my buddies are coming home richer than before and I'll be lucky if I have enough to pay off our credit cards.
Shiznit goes around and comes around, your "luck" will turn. I assume that mine will too. (and maybe I'll be able to get something better than my MK3 Jetta....)

You have every right to be bummed. You lost something precious to you and your space has been invaded. What kind of low life rips off fishing tackle?

Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day.

Teach a man to fish and feed him for a lifetime.

Steal a man's fishing gear and you are a sorry dirtbag.

Exactly. It hurts worse because these were things that had not so much real value, but sentimental value to you. You just have to get over it and move on. Did the cops at least dust for prints? Maybe they can at least catch the scum that did this. You might also want to cruise the local pawnshops if you find your stuff, call the cops as the shop keeper cannot receive stolen goods.
You might just get at least some of it back

Clinical depression is a serious and common problem. Its nothing to be ashamed of either. I would suggest you talk to your doctor about it and see if you have it. There are a variety of treatments available that can help.

I had my grandfather's tackle box that my dad gave me which had a lot of cool stuff in it. I had it along on a fishing trip one day with my son and drove off and left it sitting on the dock. Of course when I came back it was gone.

That was a bummer.

At least it was not your fault.

I know the feeling...I had a new tackle box with the family's favorites tucked in it (one of those Plano multi-compartment swing-opens) along with a compact electronic fish weight and tape measurer. That and the first Igloo cooler (nice red one) that we got as a family...*POOF!*...gone out of the back of the pickup while we stopped at a restaurant to get a nice lunch...

No video cameras around viewing the outside of the restaurant or any way to track who/what came in/out/near the place. They left the rods and bait...just grabbed the tackle box and cooler.

I expected to see the cooler on the side of one of the roads (no beer, just some diet sodas and a few cold ham and cheese sandwiches), but no luck.

It takes a while to get that feeling (pick the mood) out of your system...then you only hope the cretins REALLY NEEDED THE STUFF (mantra, mantra, mantra) to justify what they did...otherwise, the bile just builds and you and family just don't need the grief.

Hey! It's just stuff. If the truck had started on fire, we would have lost the rods and bait, so I look at it as "My stuff is living on in someone else's family, making memories for them."

I'm sleeping better at night knowing I can, at least, go out and replace it at my pace.

And the side benefit?

The pace I choose doesn't involve having to look over my shoulder to see if the "previous owner" isn't looking at me to see what I've got in MY HANDS!

Hang in there kmaysob...you're the better person in this episode and the best part, you can start a collection of baits and such all over, one piece at a time...it will be a little slower, but you'll get to know everything intimately and feel even more attached. But remember, it's just a possession...it's not your kids, GF or relatives that disappeared...just an object. Hang onto your dignity and respect and don't let this incident bring you further down...build back up from the positives...you have the rods...work with the worms and build your experiences from there.

And, take a nice cool ham and cheese (pardon me if you're Kosher) and your favorite beverage and while drowning a few worms, maybe you'll hook a few.

You'll feel better than the worms and if you're a decent cook, the fish will fill you up better than the ham/cheese deal.

Being grateful is important. This kind of attitude will help you get through the really tough stuff.

I lost a $ 147,000 / year job through no fault of my own, just a political favoritism thing (the guy got fired later but I didn't get called back),. Finally after 2 years of unemployment I landed a great contractor job, then my stupid boss got drunk at a company party I didn't even attend and really pi$$ed off the CEO of a customer company and I lost that $100,000 contractor job three years later!. I found another job that paid ok after months of some real struggling.

Today I found out I landed my dream job that I will have until retirement. When I looked at my e-mail, there was another job offer in it today as a translator, which I might do part-time in the evenings for extra MB money

But all this happened after 8 years of misery!

If it gets real bad, come here and tell someone. I had all this happen before I found the folks at the forum.

Send me a PM with your address and I'll send you some of my dad's lures from pre WW2.

Thanks for the post, I have a crappy day ahead of me and I will keep your post in mind, no matter how crappy things are I still get to see my kids at the end of the day. Be safe and thank you for your service.

Ditto on both counts!

I hope you're able to recover some of those sentimental items.

Sometimes you just get stuck in a rut and everything looks hopeless. But then someone else can look at your situation and only wish to be in your shoes.

My wife had this hanging on the wall when she was taking a self-help seminar:
To have what you have not you must do what you do not.

Look at different ways to challenge yourself, get new interests, so you don't dwell on the bad stuff. God only knows theres plenty of bad stuff to get everybody down, even in the best of times. Shrug it off and move on.

Kmay –
Lot’s of good advice being posted here. Not much more that we would add.
(other than it's sure nice to see the friendly side of the forum for a change.)

We may not be able to help with the depression directly, but we can help you get a line back in the water. That is, if you live in Mesa AZ and know where the Mesa Bass ProShops is.

Check your PMs and get back to me. I’ll be in the air here shortly. But there’s no reason we can’t have you fishing again this weekend.

John & the TOS crew.

I used to get depresses when I would go to a Ford dealership. I now get depressed all the time cause my car continually is breaking down and costing me money.
