Tata Nano receives 203,000 orders

Wow. While Detroit is decaying the Indians are busy. 203,000 cars sold and paid for (almost) before production start..

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/8033113.stm

Quote:
Tata Motors says it has received 203,000 orders for its Nano, the world's cheapest car, which went on sale last month.
However, production problems mean Tata will only be able to deliver 100,000 cars by the end of 2010. Deliveries of the vehicle will start in July. Tata Motors said it would randomly select the people who would get the first shipment.
That last bit is interesting. Pay a deposit of 95% and you're not guaranteed to get a car.

Sorta' like the GM deal going on now...sink a few billion into the company and there's no guarantee the company will be there in a few months.

Fair observation I think...my Great-Grandkids will thank us all for that!

The fact that they can only make 100k cars this year is laughable. Ford sold a million Mustangs in its first year.

I want one for the 'hood in which to take the boys to school. For $2500, it's like a glorified, street legal go-kart.

I heard somewhere that Cracker Jacks were going to use these cars as the new prizes in every box. Can anybody else confirm that?

Well they made a lot.

Plus the Mustang even though its a cheap POS is still more car than this thing.

The Indians have a long way to go with manufacturing capacity.

It's a car made for crappy city and traffic conditions and designed for people who want a step above a scooter to carry their family around in. It doesn't need to be any more car... not everything has to be a luxury car.

'Better than a Bycycle Rickshaw!

I agree with Ara,for many Indian families the Nano will be a luxurious vehicle.
