Hey, they've got to be able to retain all of those geniuses that engineered this financial meltdown!

You have to remember that AIG is a conglomerate of different businesses. The government only bailed out the part that dealt with credit default swaps. The rest of the company is sound and even made a profit. As long as the people getting bonuses are not the same idiots that were in the CDS business I am OK with their getting the $$

Do we know the geniuses who created the financial meltdown did NOT, in fact< receive their bonuses?

Get a little perspective, for godsakes. Bonuses are not agreed to in past tense, or, future. These were agreed to long beforehand on production......something most people probably aren't familiar with..... A deal is a deal.....no one I've ever met in sales is ever paid enough in sales commissions, or bonuses. Salesmen move the country.....it sure ain't the gov't. or education pimps that move this great country. Decades ago, my monthly bonuses exceeded many month's sales commissions.....I liked, no, I loved it that way! I worked, the money came rolling in. That's the America I live in! I thank them for their service to business. They are the true heroes, not the hamburger flipping and gov't. hourly employees. Hardly.....far from it. What they've done is unleashed these go-getting creative minds to open-up their own shops or go elsewhere. Actually done them a favor, is how I see it. Beware the business geek selling a formula to get you rich! Ha-ha! You can't hold-down a brilliant business mind.....the cream rises to the surface in this country. Thank Gawd they're not in education or government service.....LOL! I salute them! Last edited by Skid Row Joe; 05-05-2009 at 11:19 PM. |

I can almost understand how the communists saw things in Russia at the turn of the last century....news like this makes me understand them a bit.
I'd still love to see the feds rape these guys good, even though its not fair or constitutional I'd just love seeing a special "AIG tax". Frankly I don't give a damn that the rest of the company made money, they should have used this half a billion to prop up the half that we own.

How does seeing someone else "get theirs" improve your life?

Yes we do, the bonuses go back to early 2008. The "new" blood at AIG is somewhat worse than the old group, the new leadership at Chase, Citi, BOA, Fannie and Freddie are doing a pretty good job IMO but AIG continues to act like they have the keys to the treasury. AIG will never be solvent IMO.

I think that the peasants felt that same way about the Kulaks.

If I were a stockholder I'd feel doubly cheated. Their management ran amuk and there is very little control at any level. Overall, corporate board elections are a joke anyway, with hardly any information provided on the candidates except for a board recommendation. Its the last bastion of the good ol' boy system of doing things.
Also, the whole "too big to fail" arguement got people scared with their doom and gloom scenarios. Something needs to change where no company can get so big as to hold a country hostage financially.

Didn't they do that with AT&T? Are we really better off?

It's the old have nots, deal. Some that don't have "it," (money) many times back-bite those that do.....
This goes back to the beginning of time. It's really funny, always wondered why they just don't go out and get "theirs" too?? Changes perspective..... Last edited by Skid Row Joe; 05-06-2009 at 11:42 AM. |

Maybe they are incapable? I have known many janitors, mail room clerks, low level employees that will tell you they know how to do the CEO's job as well as he does and probably will do better. Unfortunately 10 years later, they are mostly in the same position as they were. I would think that managerial decisions are fairly straightforward and simple FOR THE MOST PART. However, sometimes there tends to be that say 10% (just a number) that might not fall into the easy category and requires a little more effort and more importantly, ability. Again, not to say that they cannot make mistakes.
