Car selling ethics

I have an ethics question. I own a 2000 ford focus and am hopefully in the process of selling it so it doesent hit my wallet so hard to get new tires and an alignment on the benz. I have a customer of mine, I am and electrical salesman, who wants to buy the car for his teenage daughter. We worked a deal that I would sell the car to him for $1700. That is my cost into the car, and it is valued at 2600 per blue book. He didnt have the money to take the car yet, so he gave me 500 to hold it. I said fine. That was two weeks ago. The other day I was driving the car, as mine was in the shop getting its window regulators replaced and the driver window fell into the door panel. It now needs a new regulator and it is 145 new at the dealer. I have not recieved the rest of the cash for the car, so should I fix the car at my cost and sell it at 1700, or do I tell the customer its his problem? I know he really wants the car and will probably still buy it for 1700 as is, but I dont want to be unethical or anything like that, but I really dont want to sink more money in this car, as it will make me lose money instead of break even. What would you guys do?

It was working when you sold it to him. Bite the bullet and repair it. Park it before you break anything else.

Never, ever, ever, EVER sell a car to a customer or client unless, of course, you are either a used card salesman or have no need to keep the client. Now, to your in-laws...

Tell him what happened and give him the opportunity to either have you fix it or discount the original price. This will give you creditability.

rest assured there will be no hard feelings by any party when this transaction is complete. He knows the situation. Maybe we can split it or something.

Fix it at your expense. He didn't agree to buy the car with the window problem.

Get him to agree to a timetable for when the transaction will be complete. Presumably it is still costing you money to insure this car. If you can't drive the car you are still incurring an expense to protect property that you cannot use. If you do drive the car then you're running the risk of other things breaking. Either way you are still out of pocket for his benefit.

Fix it with a used regulator. No need to buy a new one. The old one was used.

A friend of mine has a Ford Escort ZX2 with 90,000 miles on it. He was good about the oil change intervals, but it smokes already and is starting to make death noises. I was scared to ride in it back in 2003... Now I absolutely refuse to go anywhere with him unless I drive.

Either this and stop driving it, or fix it and stop driving it.

when i take a deposit on a car i stop using the car then and there. if i leave money on a car i really don't want it being driven around. i think if you it breaks while you're using it, it needs to be fixed.

Yeah I suppose. Its kinda funny that its window broke while the benz window was being repaired. Im sick of windows. That was the only reason to drive it. I can not drive the benz for more than a weekend.
