Actually won a "race" with a 65 hp Diesel!
 

I work at a computer shop, but my boss assigned me to do inventory at one of his clients store's which is an all natural organic place... lol

Anywho my co worker and friend, Susanna and I had just finished when she got in her car and I got in the 220 and she said "i'll race you back to DA (computer shop)" and to which I replied "Yeah, i'm going to lose, this car only has 65 hp" and she laughed and took off. She drives a neon btw...

I was driving snail status like usual and I noticed she was making bad decisions in traffic and getting stuck behind slow cars, I saw an opening, sped up and passed her. The cars that were slowing her down were now going very slow and I was starting to get way ahead. Finally got to the street to turn right and I turned taking the road with less lights. I was anxious about going into the parking lot to see if she beat me but she wasn't there!!!!!! So I parked and it was a good 30 seconds before she got there.

She was so surprised and was like "OMG YOU CHEATED!!!" and "I DIDN'T EVEN SEE YOU PASS ME!" I was all in my glory. So now I can say I won a race in a 65 hp car :)

Also I didn't speed just getting that out there, I didn't really have to cause she was stuck behind slow cars, the only time I went fast was to get into the opening I saw.

Yep i've proved this many times. A good driver in a slow car will always be quicker then a bad driver in a fast car.

I don't think a Neon qualifies as a "fast" car. Although any car in Southern California that can exceed 20mph on the freeways even out in the Inland Empire is blistering fast.

Agreed! I started driving diesels 'cause I was getting bored driving "fast" cars. Anyone can go fast in a 300hp Mustang. You have to pay attention to be fast in a 100hp diesel.

Proving, yet again, that Mercedes owners are more intelligent, better looking and more popular than anyone in a Neon.

Being in the slow car gives you more time to see the traffic patterns, and use them to your advantage. Well done. I take it you weren't power shifting (no clutch) to get a few extra tenth's out of it.:D

I hate to admit this but I was a VERY sloppy driver out of high school (two years ago) with my 300E, especially since my friend had another 300E and an other buddy a 95 Jaguar xj6. We thought we owned the world and stupidly "raced" every opportunity we had. I was sloppy up until the middle of owning the 240D where I had an incident.

I was driving it hard and fast coming up to a right turn and wanting to get attention by screeching the tires on the turn, meanwhile there was a car waiting coming from the direction that I wanted to go wanting to turn left and was waiting. Well here came bozo the clown (me) and there was water in the gutter that I ignored (yeah, i know) well I turned my wheel but to my surprise kept going straight and slid right up to the car waiting, inches away from the metal. I was so embarrassed that I just kept my head down and backed up and left.

Ever since then I have matured so much as a driver. When someone would cut me off I would of normally (in the 300E) have gone all crazy and cut them off, but the 240D taught me a lot cause when I tried that, and it was like yeah no, can't catch up so not going to bother and I stopped doing that. I want to be the best driver I can be and now having this 39 vintage Mercedes, I can't let anything happen to her.

Having said that though, I still would love to take my cars to a track, not so much the 220, and see what they can do. :D :cool:
