I finished seeing it this morning...Winona Ryder? I missed her bit...didn't recognize her at all...
Some things are probably explained/glossed over due to the time-jumping going on...the thought that both Spocks see and converse was a bit perverse and the amount of fight in Spock when Kirk tweaked him...that seemed a bit overdone...but somewhere in the next 2 pre-quels, you know that Vulcan and Mom will have to be brought back, or "logically explained" back, into existance. I'll leave that debate to the trekkers and writers...I've had enough "brain candy" for the month...

Yup, the need to pull a Star Trek IV in the first act of the next movie, bouncing off the earth's sun and stopping Niro from destroying Vulcan. It shouldn't consume the whole movie, though. More like freeing Han from carbonite at Jaba's palace.
In the Star Trek universe, there is supposed to be a Starfleet from the 29th century that monitors the time line and prevents tampering like this.

Two Words:
Loved It. I went into this really prepared not to enjoy it, but the movie delivered, staying true to the spirit of the original series, with none of the techno-babble and self-righteousness of TNG. The portrayal of the characters was good, and showed how they developed into the older personalities of ST:TOS, therefore the alternate reality explanation, which was brief and satisfactory, was probably not needed. Things were believable and acceptable enough as is. Only one problem: I now have a Green Girl sex fantasy.....

She was one of the better looking Orion girls, wasn't she?

Yes indeed.
There was one from the original series, I forget the name of the episode -- the one with Captain Garth of Izar in the mental institution -- had a killer figure, especially her legs. The same actress also played Bella Oxmyx's girlfriend in "A Piece of the Action." I never realized how erotic green skin could be.

I have a feeling we're gonna see a lot of green skinned ladies on Oct. 31st.

Other colors work well too. Marlow Yachts uses a red/orange tinted woman in their ads. But there is just something about those Orion girls....

I'm sure it's a healthy shade of pink.

They have a great new franchise, and I can easily see them making movie after movie with these characters, based on original series episodes, as well as new stories altogether.
