What could I expect to get for my E320?

Hi everyone: It's been a long time since I've posted ... way too much on my plate these days. Hope all of the forum members are doing well.

I'm probably going to sell the E320 that I picked up from a friend last year. I got it because it was all-wheel drive, and at the time, I lived in the country with really bad roads. The all-wheel drive was a real life-saver.

I've been moved again, and am back to a more urban setting, and really don't have need for the car anymore. Here's what I can tell you about it:

-1998
-E320 4MATIC
-114k
-No service record history
-Engine runs great ... put 10k on the car last year with no problems.
-Body is pretty good, though there is a little surface rust by the passenger headlight, a little in the wheel wheel, and around the trunk.
-New tires this winter.
-Will need some front-end work.
-Car is located in Wisconsin

Realistically, what do you think I could get / should ask for it? I'm not too sure what a fair price would be given all of this, and any suggestions would be most welcome. Thanks for your help!

Have the perches been inspected?

AuctorEcclesiae 05-08-2009 01:21 PM

Yep, had the dealer run the VMI when I first got it to be sure that the perches were updated, and they were.

Maybe 5-6k if its in real good shape with no rust. Otherwise like 4500-5000 or so.

In the end it all comes down to the local market and what people are willing to pay.

Based on your description (sight unseen), I'd pay about $3500, maybe $4000 at the MOST if everything else looked great. Big minuses are no maintenance history, visible rust (usually just the tip of the iceberg in a northern rust-belt state), and the need for front end work (could quickly get expensive).

Realistically, in real dollars, you should be able to get between $3K - $5K for it. The bottom has dropped out on these W211s. Good luck!

His E320 is a 210 model. The 211's started in 2003.

4matics do not suffer from this problem.

I would say about $5,000. Its also a very slow market. Put it on the craigslist site for $6,000 and see what happines. Good Luck.

KBB said $5100 if it is in fair condition. Trade in is 3400. Not sure I would go more than $3500 since there is no service records or much of anything.

The risk is you could get someone that might be intrested but turned off by the high price and not give you a 2nd look.

Again that is true my friend. But like I always say "If you want it bad enough you will wor for it" Meaning if they have a want for the car they will try and work out a good deal.

Thanks everyone, for your replies, and for your feedback. I posted it on eBay and on Craig's List for $4,950, so I guess I'll see what happens. :) I'll keep you updated, but I don't expect getting rid of it anytime soon.
