Combining our interest in Diesel and Aircraft:

Something I just ran across today in one of my magazines - A Diesel powered helicopter. Supposedly the first ever. Take a look:

www.deltahelicopters.com.au

Engine comes from here in the states:

Very cool. I had read an article about a company that was remanufacturing MB OM606 (I think) engines for use in aviation, but this is even better.

Speaking if Diesel powered airplanes check this out...

Engine:
Do 26V6:
Model: Junkers Jumo 205D Diesels
Type: Each with six double-ended cylinders
and 12 opposed pistons
Number: Four Horsepower: 880 hp

Do 26A:
Model: Junkers Jumo 205 Diesels
Type: Each with six double-ended cylinders
and 12 opposed pistons
Number: Four Horsepower: 600 hp

Do 26D:
Model: Junkers Jumo 205Ea Diesels
Type: Each with six double-ended cylinders
and 12 opposed pistons
Number: Four Horsepower: 700 hp

Speaking of aircraft engines, here's a radial 9-cyl diesel.. not from an airplane though, but lot of airplanes had radial engines so it might be of interest.
Very cool!

First chance you get go to an aviation museum and check out a 4 row radial aircraft engine that has been cut away. The engineering is amazing. Look at the cams.
