Only logical truths are necessarily true. What other kind of thinking do we have? Northern thinking? Eastern thinking? No thinking?

Kerry, I think the kids in your classes are very fortunate. We need more people like you teaching our nations youth. You and the teacher that is the subject of this thread. He made his point very well, and if he pursues it, could probably get the ruling overturned.

I still think the kid who sued should trade places with Tyler Frost. Although Tyler's father's plan to sue the school is ridiculous.

And unconventional western thinking, and critical thinking. I read a book about American Indian philosophy/religion. They did not think that for their beliefs to be true that the settlers' religion was false. You'll find that same kind of thinking in the east, too. And you don't even want to know some of the stuff from the 60s I had to read in art school. Suffice it to say, they didn't seem to mind contradiction.

I agree that logic does not rule all cultures and that sometimes contradictions can do interesting things. Logic as a discipline seems to have first arisen in literate cultures, so I suspect that using logic as a guide to thought is something that only clearly arises once written language and its more rigid grammatical style comes into play in human life. It wouldn't surprise me that American Indian culture held those views.
