The Lincoln Continental engine line up in the Sixties looked like this:

430 "M(ercury)E(dsel)L(incoln)" engine was used 1961-1965

462 "MEL" engine was used 1966-partway into 1968 model year

460 engine (from 385 or "Lima" engine family) was installed in the 1968 Continentals (replacing the 462) around the same time that the Mark III coupe was placed into production.

I just did a search on the 430 engine that was probably the one I drove, pretty sure our first one was a '63 and the second a '65. I had no idea it was rated at over 300hp. One of those things I wish I could experience again. Would be a hoot to drive that exact car now. I guess I could seak one out. Probably low excitement bang for buck so might not. The nice ones are $30K plus.

Here's a great one for $6200. A '63 Continental shell placed on a '06 Continental frame. Most stuff - lights, etc. - not installed. Don't everyone jump at once:

trivia: Wikipedia says they weighed 5000 to 5500 lbs. I could have sworn I read 6000 once - would be easy to exaggerate the weight of one of those.

As of today there is a 6.9 for sale on Dallas Craigslist. It needs a lot of work but the asking price is less than $4000.

It is also a Euro model with the lights and bumpers and Euro A/C controls.
