Got a change to buy a 24' bayliner cabin cruiser, 350 chevy inboard/outboard. Been stored ten years, double axle, all tires flat. Here's the kicker....it's spotless on the inside, filthy on the outside. Even smells new. Pulled the engine cover and engine bay is also spotless. About an inch of dust on the top of boat. What's it worth? When I say spotless, I mean it. This boat never saw saltwater. It's a museum piece.

The value of boats has declined precipitously of late due to fuel and the recession.

Bayliner is not known for producing a quality boat. It's fine for a lake..........I wouldn't want it in the ocean at any price.

The real question is does it have a BEER cooler. And it's value in todays economy is $6800

Assume that anything mechanical/safety that can deteriorate simply through the passage of time (e.g., battery, fluids, gaskets, seals, hoses, trailer tires) must be replaced. BTW, there are some boat fanatics on this board who wouldn't let their pet dog defecate on a Bayliner. Buckle your seatbelt...

Decide once you have heard the engine run, and it runs properly...not just starts up. Who knows what kinds of evils lurk within that Mercruiser V8

That Bayliner will ruin you.

10 years! Probably needs a new long block. Can be had for around 2k.
The drive is probably shot to. Figure 2k for one.
The fuel system will need to be completely taken apart, drained, cleaned.

And when you are all done sinking about 6k of your money and time, or 15k of your money and a marina's time, you'll have a Bayliner worth about 4k.

A cheap boat is like a cheap Benz, only much more expensive.

Plan on a water pump impeller at this point anyways. Outdrive issues, rusted manifolds...

I have a 26' dry docked Sea Ray that I'd give someone a chance to buy.

I'm guessing that these are the same 350 engines that Silverton uses...I didn't have too much experience with them but I remember that they were always temperamental and on the one I was on a pain to start. We came into the dock once with only one engine and I saw another Silverton (Both 35 or 40s) smack right into another boat because they also came in with one engine.

Bayliner powerboats and Hunter sailboats are the Yugos of the recreational marine world. Inland lake cruiser for a person very experienced in engine, hydraulic and fiberglass repair that also is a good swimmer.

An SRA260 raffle seems our only way out.

This one is a 27' Weekender and it's been sitting for five years. I'll have to give it away............or spend a months getting it in shape.
