What a shame!

Read this website about the new E-class, what a shame, pg 16 (pictures included) states: "The gear shifter has also been moved from the center area to the stalk allowing for more…wait for it…cupholders, a part of American society Germans manufacturers have come to accept."

Its sad that the true enthusiasts dont matter to mercedes anymore, what happened to being the leader Mercedes?

just silly, mercedes was always about experiencing the drive, not about who was on the phone or what your drinks tasted like. Bring back the "driving experience!"

Push the stick Up towards the letter R (I've seen that the most trouble people have with it is getting it into park)

Its crazy that Mercedes and BMW made their shifters so counter intuitive like that.

If you're going to have a slush, it may as well be on the tree. It frees up a little space for reaching over to the passenger side that way. If the transmission is manual, I like it on the floor, but Mercedes-Benz apparently does not offer a manual transmission E-class these days. Consequently, I will not be buying one.

The problem with cup holders on modern cars like that is if you spill. Dump a big gulp on the center console of an S550 and you are going to dry $2k worth of computers.

c'mon, keep the slush out of the car.. DRIVE THE MERCEDES! If you want the slush get an oldsmobile or a minivan! (dodge, ford or chevy, maybe a hundai) Whats the point of paying 40,000, 50,000 or more for a $2 cupholder, enjoy the car for the car

Well, you don't know how much you miss cup holders until you don't have them. It's a B**ch having to hold a cup from spilling, shift and drive at the same time.

I'm sure, especially since Mercedes has "invented" so many innovations on our cars, that they can find a reasonable place to put cup holders, which benefits the driver. And in America, I'm sorry but most people need them.

Hey! I like that handle-slot in the side...for a real coffee cup...not one of those Mega-Silo-Gulp cups...

How much for that thing? I could use that in my S-10! My cup holders (4 - two from the factory and two in a do-dad holder infront of the 2 factory units) are holding every little do-dad that the other do-dad holder couldn't hold.

No room to put the Dew...unless I hang it from the belt-holder do-dads I've got...maybe I'll edit in a bit with a picture of those things...

Its probably more possible then you think....that holder isn't screwed in or anything it just pops into a little hole (Hence why it was an afterthought)
