Speeding in Arizona? Wear a Hockey Mask!

Two-Thirds of Speed Camera Photos Tossed

Part of the problem in Arizona, King said, is that the state has a driver-responsibility law, like Colorado, California and Oregon. That distinction means DPS officers have to match the photo of the speeder with one on a driver's license.

*****
Other states, like Louisiana, have a registered-owner responsibility law, which requires authorities to match only the license plate with a registered owner. The owner gets the ticket, even if he or she wasn't the one driving.

Remember, borrow a car in LA.

In MD there is no face photo just the phot of the rear plates and overall car from behind. They send the ticket to the registered owner of the car, $40 for 46 in 35 zone. I just got one in the mail. Paid it on the internet.

I've heard that tickets based upon photos from these traffic cameras do not seem to hold up well in court if you have a competent lawyer. What say you lawyers?

How much do the lawyers charge?

BTW, the "van cams" recently were redeployed in PHX . . . following the murder of one of the "photographers" while on the job.

These cameras are a monumental pain in the ass. I'm surprised so few have been targeted. I've wondered about the efficacy of paintballing them a few times myself. I have to say though that the idiot who killed the van operator deserves all the jail time he gets. If you are really that pissed off at them then at least have the good sense to use a non lethal weapon (such as a paint ball gun) and targeting the fixed cameras would make a lot more sense, it seems to me than a van with the possibility of someone in it.

A red light camera picture of a red late model Honda was mistakenly given to me and my yellow 85 300TD. As if those cars are easily confused! I got it rescinded but it required the photo on my driver's license.

Red light camera photo showed the red Light was not working

I got a Red Light camera ticket that CLEARLY showed that the Traffic Light over the center of the intersection was not working but they sent me the summons anyway!

I returned it noting that I could not be held liable when the Traffic Control device was CLARLY not in operation...

They returned it saying "The Adjudication of the Violation is not within our jurisdiction. Pay the Fine." I took the summons to the nearest traffic court, requested a hearing, presented both the photo and a copy of the Dept of Traffic Non Working Signal Complaint and Repair order I got from the DOT after making a written request under NY FOI law and they wiped it. The hearing officer took a look at the date/time of the Complaint made by another driver that the light was not working, noted it was before the time stamp on the photo and wiped the violation and actually apologised for the error.

Sure it cost time but it was $50 +3 points on an already clean record.

I have had friends get tickets that did not display their car but the partially obscured plates had SOME of the numbers/letters that were on their plate. The funny one was for a VW Bug that had the first 3 letters (GIN) of my friend Gino's Ford F-350 Super Duty Dualie Pickup (GINOSTRK)-now just how can you mix up a VW Bug and a Ford F-350 Super Duty Dualie?

Simple - they do not even try to check the vehicle description, they use a computer program to scan the DMV Plate file and send tickets to ALL the matching or partial matching plates and see who pays!

But if you want to get away with illegally parking your Motorcycle or Scooter in NYC just use Velcro to mount the plate and when you illegally park just take the plate with you! Traffic Enforcement agents do not even try to write up the vehicle based on the Registration (displayed on the forks or frame) or the Inspection Sticker because they would have to get out of the car or actually bend over and look for it! Today I did a random survey of the 45 Cycles and Scooters parked in Batery Park City between 1st Place and 5th Place. 42 of the 45 had the plates removed and were illegally parked in a crosswalk or blocking a curb cut but not one had a ticket on it!

City of Denver contracts with a private company for the red light cameras, so the company has a strong incentive to get as many paid as possible. They were challenged in court because the tickets weren't being issued by law enforcement officers. City then put a couple of cops at a desk reviewing every ticket.

Talking classic ( absolutely true) red light camera story (SF CA).

When I worked in the Superior Court of San Francisco, a clerk in Traffic told me a story about some guy who picked up a Red light running camera ticket that he did NOT want mailed out, and he came to the Court clerk's office to plead.

The problem was that the camera had snapped a photograph of him driving his wife's car late at night, with his GIRLFRIEND snuggled up next to him while he was driving the car and ran the red light.

Once that ticket was mailed to the registered owner of the car - (W I F E Y ) - and she opened the letter and looked at the picture issued with the summons, and saw the g/f all over the guy, he knew:

Put a fork in it; Marriage over.

The clerk told the guy he couldn't help him, good luck.

The first camra they install in my city is getting nailed. Big brother is only going to push so far and thats over the line, so I'll push back.

If we don't draw the line somewhere its going to be like the UK with camra's everywhere watching for everything. I'd be happy to fight that in court, and pay whatever fine they nail me with for destroying them.

A felony on your record would probably help you get hired considering the tax breaks companies get

If they weren't obvious income generators for the cities, and existed for some legit purpose, like SAFETY........

I hate those things! Not knowing they ever existed, I was driving into Phoenix on I-10 at about 2 am in the morning. I got to the outskirts and "FLASH"! .........WTF - was that, I thought! Scared the crap out of me. Then the further into the city I got then I realized they had speeding cameras, because everyone I'd seen flashed (hopefully not because of me). Anywho, I never received anything in the mail. So I guess I am alright.

But I guess it actually helps, it kept my speed down.
