Skippy~ As for perception: Drive what you like and can afford. Those who don't like it can supply vacuum to one of your components. LOL

If you need parts, I have some!

technology rules

We entered WW2 with canvas covered biplanes and exited with jets and ICBMs. An exciting time for engineers and scientists. Actually, we went from not flying at all to walking on the moon within one short lifetime of about half a century. Literally, the sky was the limit.

Somethimes I wish I was born back in the '20's or teens. In both aircraft and automobiles, there were so many people attacking problems with diverse and interesting designs.

It seems like today, advances are more a matter of super science done by a few high profile companies but I suppose back then, these aircraft were considered high-tech as well.

The only modern example I can think of are the Rutans.

I wonder what ever happened to all those prototypes. For that matter, what happened to all the planes built for WWII.
I know quite a few DC3 are still in service;.... which I find amazing.

aircraft design

What is even more amazing is that those aircraft were designed by engineers or sometimes largely uneducated instinctive visioneers using nothing more complicated than a slide rule. Today's aircraft are low risk computer designs.

I thought that was the standard?

Very intereasting designs. 5 propellerd engines, rear mounted ones, flying squirrel wings... Cool stuff, wonder how it handled...
