Not likely...just a cave right now...I will be taking cues from the article to do the "man cave" conversion... :D

Nice... I'm having one right now with my lunch. Perfect for those times when an actual beer would be more than what you want.

I agree, I use to drink Bud Ice and it tended to make me choke the living $hit out of people that desperately needed it. so I switched to Miller High Life to keep myself out of jail.

It's a generational thing I suppose. The "man cave" has been upscaled, given its own TV show, media driven, to appeal to some intellectual concept of what "men" are supposed to be interested in.

I blame Richard Griot. :D

It is a generational thing. My cousin has a garage in his condo like that for his BMW. Tile floors, perfect painted walls, paintings etc.

I prefer a Mystic Seaport boat yard kind of feel, you know where they maintain everything not the part you usualy see.

Just like home interior pics, the photos are designed to look impressive, but give few hints, if any, of the owner's personality...so that the person viewing the pics can visualize living in or owning the same space.

Anyone who REALLY does any serious tooling in the garage would disrupt such a pristine environment in short order...taking cues from REAL fabricators like the Tuttles of OCC or Jesse James of WCC...they have impressive showrooms, but their laboratories are FAR from this sort of thing...

That is an insightful and sad comment. I have 2 “man caves” and each represents about the same proportioning of the overall possible space. The sad part is that almost no guy gets the degree of fit and finish that’s illustrated in the photo essay.

If a guy gets a little more than a couple of bare light bulbs, concrete flooring, well worn kitchen chairs to sit on, a coat for warmth, and a place to keep the spent matches and wine bottles, it amounts a happy retreat.:(

You're not happy with that? Gimme some beer in place of the wine and the old college-days dorm stereo system and I'm happier than a pig in $h!t! :D

There needs to be certain degree of unpleasantness to keep wife and children from infiltrating. :)

While the point is valid, sadly, that “need” is a result that has been forced upon men throughout this land.

30 X 60 garage in Ohio, but a teeny little garage in Utah. Hopefully that will change later this summer when I have enough in savings to build another 30 X 60...

The Clk Man 05-21-2009 10:35 AM

It's not the size of the man cave, it's what inside that counts. :D:D

About $275,000 worth of machinery and tools in the Ohio cave, along with a sizeable bar. :D I used to own a house painting business as well as a tool and die shop. I still have my painting rig mounted on a trailer, 2 mills, lathe, surface grinder, water grinder, surface plate, precision tools and such there.

Utah hole has a 560sl and tools.

When the new one gets built in Ohio, I'll have most, if not all, toys in Ohio moved here. I may go 48 X 60...I need to measure the back yard again and see how big I can go.

True words..... Without a garage yet (maybe next summer) I utilize the basement. I have a computer, TV (w/PS2), 5.1 stereo, and a woodstove. Probably the reason I stalled out on the basement remodel is the lack of another place to go.....;)

How about a happier than a pig in a pinata. Does that work? :D
