I can dig it.

And like any good dealer, I don't partake in my own product (out of sheer laziness... ).

When we got it, you could weed whack the entire backyard in 10 minutes. Enter - The Skidsteer!! Invaluable piece of equipment. The playscape thing-a-ma-bob is actually on the leech field, and used to be the lowest part of the yard. Watching the snow melt and rain build up on top of my field prompted buying the machine. It's first job was digging out the back of the house for the cement patio, then picking up the 10' pieces of wall that got cut out of the foundation (yes, they are buried in the backyard), then it was the yard, then the driveway, then the yard again. It has also been used for a scaffold when doing the siding, lifting deck beams into place, rock digger and mover (I know exactly how big of a rock it will lift), and snow plow. Did I mention that it's diesel? Anyway, most of the credit goes to the equipment, without it, I would have dug a trench off the leech field and been done. Besides, **** grows like crazy out here, and I cheated with the first lawn application - hydroseed. It is a real pleasure to see the kids run around barefoot in the grass though, the true reason for a lawn.

You can fit nearly 100 seedlings under two 4ft. fluorescent shop lights. I set up a table in a corner and suspended the fixtures from the ceiling, raising them as needed as the plants grew. Space was not a problem.

My garden is large, but we have a short growing season and the weather can be extreme. If I have too much of anything this year it will be tomatoes. Last year I saved my own seeds from an heirloom called Aunt Ruby's German Green, and started more than I needed.

Up in the mountains?

Tomatoes are the best thing to have too many of, IMO.

Good luck, hope the season is mild.

Nice work cmbdiesel! I really like the way you did your retaining wall.

I decided to move my jalapeņos out of the garden and into containers on my porch about 40' away from all the other veggies. I've heard cross-pollination can turn the other veggies hot and I don't want to risk having spicy tomatoes, etc.

Burning hot sweet peas, mmmmm.....

The upper wall was pretty easy, the lower one is all stone, dug up out of the yard, and was a PITA. Stone mason I am not

It occurs to me.....with you other obvious skills, how do we know you didn't just photoshop the nicest looking garden on the street right onto your house?

also just realized what was going on with the fence

Yeah, come to think of it! That's probably what he did. You'll notice, not ONE instance of JB-Weld! Hmmm, mighty suspicious!

I think you may be onto something with the peppers. Spicy tomato's sounds good to me.

I remember a friends Dad who had glass boxes over his jalapenos and habaneros, mostly so he could deprive them of water. Claimed that they wouldn't get hot enough if they received to much water during the fruit bearing stage.

I took some pics of the garden this morning to show the progress.

The lettuce almost ready to harvest!

The broccoli:

The zucchini is flowering.

The start of some zucchini!

Here's a pic of the Asian Red Lilies we have along our garage. Not the garden, but they look cool.
