Nothing Sells Like Fear
The Thrill-a Near the Hill-a, Cheney v. Obama Speech Festival
“Dick Cheney came out swinging… Cheney used the word ‘attack’ 19 times, ‘danger’ and ‘threat’ six times apiece, and 9/11 an impressive 27 times. It was as if all the angry thoughts edited out of his speeches by Bush aides over eight years were finally free to tumble forth.” |

I fear we could be on our way. When great transitions take place in societies, there is upheaval. With it comes (usually) some good change. I read some 1909 newspapers and there was a great amusing, but serious, debate about the automobile. On the one hand, some people liked horses, and just avoided the "natural remains" that the horses left in the street. The other side proomoted automobiles because there was no horse$hit in the street and the engine smoke would go away. The REAL issue was the way the car would change the street, the road, businesses, the town, the national economy, international relations, geopolitical dynamics etc etc. Think about the difference between a Old Western town and a modern village with just Main Street. Imagine watching that change in the space of a year or two. Along with buildings, parking, horse-related businesses failing. But we haven't seen any of that. Instead, suddenly debt becomes due, houses are worth nothing and jobs are lost as if by the wind. There's no one obvious to point at, no one to blame. When we do find them, boy do we blame them! This is hard on the psyche of most Americans who don't think as much as the people on this forum do. Those people are going through rough times, even if they have jobs. Peace of mind is replaced by stress, and they can't afford the downers and the Cialis to take care of their stress...no more health plan And so it goes.

I typically like Ron Paul, but his rant seems to serve no purpose. A rehashing of failed policies and a vague criticism of current policy, with no attempt at defining what changes he feels are necessary. Would have been better delivered on a street corner with a spare change jar....Possibly wearing a sandwich board proclaiming "The End Is Near"
