Anywhere to get bolts other than stealership?
 

the bolts that hold the rotor in are stripped unfortunately....Can't do my upper timing cover gasket w/o the rotor off.

Is there anywhere I can get these bolts cheaper than the stealership? IIRC they were like $3 EACH! :eek:
Problem is if I order online....I will probably get charged $5+ for shipping so kinda defeats the point right?

If you know the size, MSC, Fastenal, McMaster Carr, etc. Lowes has a good metric selection too.


But since its a lot of hassle to save a few bucks I'd just buy them from the dealer.

None of the online retailers will sell you a single screw. The quantity varies from 100 for the smaller fasteners to 25 for a typical 3/8" screw to 5 for a 1" screw.

Lowes is a possibility...........

I have ran into the pack of 100 problem very often, usualy just ordered a pack if they were cheap enough and I needed it badly enough.


At least our local Lowes has a very good metric slection...they might have it.

What's the size and type? I have a kazillion of everything including 9mm bolts. Where do you live and what do you want?

Just be reasonable and don't ask for an engine rebuild kit lol

Not sure of the size...only its the torx screw that holds the rotor in. Guess I'll get it from the dealership as I want to do it right.

Ace hardware has a decent bolt selection.

What about strength rating? If in doubt with aftermarket, go with OEM.

Isn't that the single one (one on each rotor) that just holds the rotor in place during assembly? I have left them out before on other cars... it has always been my understanding that they're not necessary and were just used to hold the rotor in place as the car moved down the assembly line. That said, if it can help center the rotor in place at all, I would try to replace it.

$3? ha! I went to the dealer to get four exhaust manifold bolts. try 16 bucks each! It was cheaper for me to drive all the way across town to the junk yard.

I was once in Ace Hardware & this guy was buying regular zinc bolts for his motorcycle brakes! :eek:

I went and showed him where the grade 8 bolts were. Grade 5 probably would have been fine but grade 8 bolts aren't going to break very easily.

Ace usually has the normal metric stuff in both grade 5 and grade 8, they even have the grade 10 stuff for some things.
