Murderer, rapist, corpse burner Steven Green gets life

If this case doesn't merit the death penalty, I'm sorta hard pressed to find anything shy of a Timothy McVeigh sort of event that would.

Guy killed the 14 year old's mother, father and sister, then became the third soldier to rape the girl before shooting her in the face and setting her body on fire.

Iraqis are complaining that we don't hold their lives in the same esteem as ours. Jeez, give 'em their freedom and still they *****.

This Green kid was a piece of work. Let into the service owing to relaxed standards on prior convictions:

Can I ask why you want the death sentence? Let him live out his natural life in a cell if it is such a bad crime. At 24 and healthy, he has a good chance of seeing what? 60? Make it a round 40 years in a cell.

The firing squad would have been appropriate.

And thanks for the link now I know who the real Fox News readers are.

We are trying to convince the Iraqis, et.al., that we have their interests at heart and want the best for them. If someone did that in most states in the US, he would be hung, etc. If I were an Iraqi, I would not be happy, as their legal codes, such as they are, would not leave the guy breathing much longer, after such a conviction.

Here's the fellow's pic., AFTER he returned from Iraq:

Agreed. Some things are beyond the pale.

I watch FOX news semi-regularly. The news division is not bad, it's the Op-Ed guys on TV that I can't stand.

MSNBC goes with those crime and prison stories, over and over and over on the weekends and FOX is what's left for a news fix, as I've never been big on CNN for reasons I can't fully explain.

On the link, oops, it's the first piece I came across good enough to link to.

Why would any taxpayer want to contribute to the support of this worthless subhuman? And in the end, the just way would be to allow the survivors of the victims to decide on life or death.

Imagine this happened in your neighborhood by an Iraqi and he was spared the death penalty back in Iraq?

The survivors of this outrage had no say in the matter, and they're not happy about it.

I got this from wiki

Quote:
According to a military spokesperson and a criminal complaint filed in connection with the charges, Green was honorably discharged from the military "due to antisocial personality disorder but before the military was aware of the incident."[1] Green was stationed in Iraq from September 2005 to April 2006 and discharged in May 2006.[2]
I'm with you 1000% on this, the Army and his leaders are also responsible for letting this happen in the first place there are ways to spot people like this and put them out of the Army but with the current situation with recruiting the standards have been severely dropped.

Yup. I read somewhere that he had been evaluated as having 'revenge issues' a couple of months or so before the incident. The recommendation was that he be reassigned, which he was not.

It's a tough one. The unwritten code of 'manliness' is going to discourage any man in any conflict from either staying out of battle or recommending that someone else stay out of battle.

I wouldn't be so down on this guy if I hadn't read of some of his abusive, mindlessly violent behavior prior to his service.

Isn't it more expensive to hang him after we go thru all those appeals, etc, etc? For something like this, I would prefer to see him rot in a cell for as long as he possibly can knowing that that 14 yo gave him a few minutes of fun for possibly 40+ years in the can. It would be a little more fun than a simple "BANG" and it is all over. At this rate, the only ******* he will ever see will be the cellmate kind, assuming he is the dominant one. IF not, well, hand him a mirror to look at what that 5 mins of ******* turned him into.

For some crimes, the death penalty is fitting. I think his offense, assuming he did it, is way more serious and he does NOT deserve a quick end. Something like this he deserves a lot of time to think about how worthwhile that 5 mins of fun was especially if he becomes somebody's "wife".

Personally, if I was offered life WITHOUT the possibility of parole in a cell or something nice and sweet like a needle in the arm or a nice meal followed by a game of "catch the bullet", I'd choose the latter.

What's that got to do with anything? He was given a chance and he screwed it up, plain and simple. In the states, he'd have ended up as a thug or on the morgue slab or both. If only they could have found him innocent and let him go from our authority to an Iraqi trial but that would give him a quick easy way out.

OTOH, I have known a few people that were given the option to volunteer for the military and it straightened them out. My "lil Sister" has a brother who was quite a jerk, antisocial, etc, etc. A tour in Iraq did him wonders. It did seem to knock the bad habits out of him. That and a few "accidents" from his platoon mates.

I agree with this POV somewhat but the average Iraqi does not. Why should we care? We're trying to achieve enough order so as to withdraw and stop hemorrhaging blood and treasure.
