Windows 7 Pre-Sale on Friday
Windows 7 Half-Price Sale Starts Friday
By Paul McDougall InformationWeek June 25, 2009 05:11 PM Consumers who pre-order a copy of Microsoft's Windows 7 operating system will receive more than 50% off the retail price for a limited time starting Friday. The full version of Windows 7 Home Premium is priced at $199, with an upgrade from Vista or XP costing $119. The full version of Windows 7 Professional is $299, with upgrades going for $199. Windows 7 Ultimate is priced at $319, with the upgrade version at $219. But U.S. shoppers who pre-order between June 26th and July 11th will receive discounts of 50% or more, Microsoft said. For instance, Windows 7 Home Premium will sell for $49 during the discount period, while Windows 7 Professional will sell for $99. Participating retailers include Best Buy and Amazon, as well as Microsoft's own online store. In a further effort to boost sales, Microsoft on Thursday disclosed an upgrade program through which consumers who purchase a Vista-powered PC can migrate to Windows 7 at little or no cost when the latter becomes available on Oct. 22. |

If its half price I'd surely get Professional....I will probably take advantage of this....
Win7 is actually a good OS, I've been running it on a couple PC's now for quite a long while with 0 issues.

yeah, I heard that today...so...what are the benifits of functionality in this upgrade? MicroSoft has pulled this bullcrap before...raise income? What would the benefit be? Typically a new release of Microsoft Window means you will eventually have to upgrade your hardware as well...as if the hardware and software vendors/manufactures aren't in cahoots....I worked in the computer industry for 25 years and would be blind to not see this one coming.....watch.....if anyone here can tell me that Intel and Microsoft and HP and ATT and so forth are not working together behind the scenes to pull a 1970's IBM restriction of free trade injuction lawsuit let them speak now, of forever pay the price....it's the same old song...just in a different key....

They need some revenue stream until the blockbuster release of the widely awaited release of . . . . Zune HD . . . because digital radio > thousands of apps and worldwide name recognition, right?

People pay that much money for Windows? Crikey. Pretty easy to get it for free.

Is it time to make the jump from XP? I have nothing with Vista on it because I always felt like it takes a lot of control away from the user and it's overly complex.
Kind of like upgrading from a reliable manual transmission to a fully computer controlled automatic that you can't even check the fluid level on... Like the 722.6 on my '98

From what I've read, Windows7 is supposed to be stable and fantastic. Normally, I wouldn't bother with this either, but I think I'll do the upgrade from Vista.

Wasn't that the same pre-release hype about Vista from all the beta testers?

Now, how many Windows users are going to wait until Windows 7, Service Pack 1 or 2 is released before spending the time and money to upgrade?
