Rail Riders
Here is my project for the summer if I can afford it http://www.railriders.net/index1.html There are some abandoned rail lines around here that travel for miles and I want to mod our go-cart to ride the rails. You guys know anyone who has tried this? What do you think?

That looks like a blast.

Just make sure the train doesn't come!

Knew a guy from Kansas in the 1970's. He claimed his 62 Belair would ride the rails. Said he'd pull onto the rails at a road crossing, let about half the air out of his tires so they settled down around the rails, put his car in gear while idling, climb in the back seat and bang his girlfriend until he got to the next road crossing.

UP doesnt run on those tracks anymore but the go cart should have no problem. That mine started in the 1800's The town above is called Gilman it's a way cool ghost town we might go explore tomorrow. |

others have tried it too!
I used to work for a guy whose father or grandfather helped build the Mt. Washington railroad up in New England. It is a very steep railway with gear teeth in the center for the locomotive to grab on. The guys building it started at the bottom of the mountain going up to the top. At the end of the day they had to get down the hill. They used these 6-8' long flat cars with rail wheels. They would ride them down the mountain... and I don't think they had brakes. He claimed they hit 80 mph.

Hmmm, that has bad idea wrote all over it! My crazy self would end up with a turbine powered railrider, hahahaha!
Think of having it in the middle of nowhere with some sort of hi-powered motivation for it and open the throttle and let it eat! For some strange reason, im also getting a mental image of thet F-4 Phantom jet on the rocket sled plowing into a wall and exploding..........Hmmmm http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rWdcVo6zIYI |

Yeah, not the least bit of legality concern with trespassing on government contracted property.
That must be why they only sell the wheels.... ;) |
