another indy 500

Went down to the race today. It was miserably hot and muggy with very little breeze. The racing action was pretty good all day with some very aggressive passing attempts on the inside on the main straight. One pass by number 27 I thought he had hit the inside retaining wall just past the start line. I believe though he hit a bump and it made sparks off the bottom of the car. Just the same he was so close to it that I thought he had hit it.

I wondered about it a bit, and tonight I watched the race on tv and it seems that the groove was so narrow it was impossible nearly to pass anywhere in the turns or short chutes.

One of my favorite drivers Vitor Meira was giving an AJ Foyt car the best ride any of AJs cars have had in years, surviving a scary fire and then getting caught out by an overzealous rookie and having a very very scary looking ride up on the fence on turn one, riding for a quarter of a mile backwards and competely up on the fence with the car perpendicular to the ground. I hope he turns out to be not too seriously injured.

Naturally a Penske car won again. Lots of folks cheering. I always am in a funk when they win again.

I am thinking of not going to the race any more.

Danica did very well in spite of another pit error, finishing third. With out that error possibly second? I don't think she had anything for Elio.

I enjoyed Paul Tracy's excellent ride in a second tier car, finishing in the top ten. In the last forty laps several fellows found him a tough pass even though their cars were quicker. He did not drive dirty but did not yield without a fight, at one point circulating the entire track on the outside of a clearly faster car.

Two cracked vertebrae for Meira.

Far too few passes to be called a race. It's a spec series, what do you expect?
Nice parade tho.

Yes. I am spoiled by the sixties!

Meh, the more passes the less meaning they have. NASCAR's got the stranglehold on meaningless racing. Out of all motorsports, I'm more likely to watch just the last lap of a NASCAR race than any other motorsport.

You mean there was another race besides the Grand Prix of Monaco?

There were actually 3 spec series races.

One of my favorite series is WRC, where there's NO passing!

Monaco had few passes too, but that's a REALLY high dollar parade.
