Judge Sotomayor has made the American dream her own.

Federal appellate experience means little if your opinions are out of touch and biased, as it appears hers are. She comes across as a reverse racist, which *is* a racist.

And NOBODY has stated that she has a sharp legal mind, much less than "one of the finest legal minds in America today". John Roberts is so far ahead of her it isn't even funny. From a "legal mind" standpoint, she is the least qualified in decades.

"-- In one case reversed by the Supreme Court, Sotomayor and the majority on the appeals court ruled that an inmate could sue a private corporation for injuries he suffered in a halfway house run by that company. Though the company operated the house on behalf of the Bureau of Prisons, Sotomayor argued that the company was not shielded from liability. The Supreme Court reversed the appeals court decision in 2001.


-- In another case, Sotomayor dissented in a 2006 opinion that rejected a challenge to a New York law denying convicted felons the right to vote. She argued in her own dissenting opinion that the state law "disqualifies a group of people from voting."


-- Sotomayor, in 2003, also wrote an opinion that reversed a district court decision that a Muslim inmate's rights were not violated when he was denied a holiday feast. Sotomayor argued that the inmate's First Amendment rights were violated because the feast was important to his religion.


-- In 1999, Sotomayor dissented in a decision to dismiss a case in which a black student claimed his school discriminated against him by transferring him mid-year from first grade to kindergarten. Sotomayor argued that the "lone black child" in the class was not given an "equal chance."


-- In 2007, Sotomayor wrote an opinion holding that the Environmental Protection Agency could not perform a cost-benefit analysis to determine the "best technology available." She wrote it could only consider cost as a factor in more limited ways. This decision, too, was overturned by the Supreme Court.


-- In 1993, Sotomayor threw out evidence obtained by police in a drug case, because a detective lied to obtain the search warrant -- prosecutors agreed to a plea bargain. However, during sentencing Sotomayor made controversial statements by criticizing the five-year mandatory sentence, calling it an "abomination" that the defendant did not deserve. "


She'll probably do just fine. I wonder if Obama's first few questions were if she has her taxes in order, and no illegal aliens working in her yard.

Are those quotes supposed to mean something to us? What were her reasons in those cases? What did the applicable cases and statutes say?

As for her 1993 comments, she is not alone among judges disgusted with unjust sentencing laws.

Really? can you cite any examples? Contrary to Fox News' attempt to portray Sotomayor as a judge who is frequently reversed, her record is actually quite good. Fox claims that she is reversed 50% of the time, but that is not even close to true. So far, it seems to be falling flat.Based on what? To come from the housing projects in the Bronx and then excel at Princeton and Yale, I would think that she wouldn't be a total dummy.

Look for Rush, et al., to imply that she only got where she is today by being an hispanic female. He started with it today. He is a racist.That would be a lot of work. Do you know of a link that has her opinions all assembled in one place?

Seems like there as many differences as similarities.

I'd be curious which opinions of hers you have read, as I'd like a reason to oppose her, but have practical reasons not do do so. I've quoted a couple of her opinions in the last few years, and only two or three come to mind as ones I have read in their entirety out of interest, which weren't ones I have quoted from. Maybe if nothing else, the Right will be glad if she makes it that she won't be able to hear the 13 yo 4th Am. case
