Two Funerals and a GTG....

I lost a very good friend tonight and have another friend who is being buried at Arlington Cemetery at the end of the month both of these funerals are after the Mid-Atlantic GTG this weekend. So I offer up this poem that Dynalow put on a thread a while back:

Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds tht blow
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
of quiet birds in circled flight,
I am the soft stars that shine at night.

Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there, I did not die.

It's always sad when a friend leaves us, even if we knew it was coming. Sorry for the bad, hopefully the good memories will outweigh the loss.

I'm sorry for your losses, Mistress. Please accept my condolences.

Ironic that I visited the site of my friend (for whom I made the post last year) at the county's Veteran's Cemetary Memorial Day. This was the first time I had returned since his funeral. Every grave had a small American flag. Beautiful. Peaceful.

First the sorrow and sadness. Then acceptance and closure.

...Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there, I did not die.

Peace.

The best thing to take the sting out of death is a life well-lived.

Don't put off the good intentions you have to visit or call a friend or family member or to just do a kindness to someone. There is no guarantee that any of us will be here tomorrow.

I realized that more in the last year of my mother's life than at any other time. By taking the time to do all those things together that we had always wanted to do, we were able to say goodbye much more easily.

Thank you everyone for your kind words, thoughts and prayers.
