Time to bust some knee caps?

I have a customer who brought in a car for detail. We did it same day and to his satisfaction. 5 weeks have gone by with no payment. I've called him a few times every week and he always says he'll come by. Called him 2 days ago and he told me he's having money trouble due to the IRS, but he'd come by today-- but of course he never did.

All this for $125.00

We did a car for him 9/08 and he finally paid me 2/08. Then we did a car 10/08 and he paid 3/09. I know where he works, his cell and work # etc. He's also referred a few people. It's not like he's ducking out, but... Should I be ticked off?? I've always been polite and he knows that biz is slow.

I could use the money, ya' know??

Nice people always get burned, you have to find a balance between being good and evil!

You can be nice and stand up for yourself. I'm going into his work on Monday to collect. He's a commodities broker, so it's not like the guy is down and out.

Make him pay when he picks up the car.

The trouble with giving credit in these deals is you risk losing the money and the customer.

I run into the same problem in my printing and sign business. And I always get paid, heres what you should do, don't go to his work place, wait until he's off work and try to catch him in a seemingly random place like a restaurant and give him the sob story about how broke you are. If he doesn't pay then threaten to embarass him in public. It has worked for me on many occassions.

Has the value of his referrals outweighed your annoyance?

Go call him out at his place of business- I'll bet he's made comments at work about how he gets his car detailed free because he throws so much work your way.

If his boss is around you should be able to impunge his reputation nicely.

He referred one co-worker who brought in 2 cars and they paid right away.

If he can't pay, he should just tell me something like "I'm having money probs with the IRS. Please work with me. I can pay you half next week, then the 2nd-half the week after" -- something like that. Not lead me on week after week.

He's blown me off 15 times for this last car. The other 2 (the one's which took him about 6 months ea. to pay me) involved about another 40 jerk around phone conversations.

It's more the principal of the situation.

That might work, but I'm not that good of an actor.

He picked up his car 5 weeks ago. He hopped in it and said something like, "I'll be by in a few days with the cash."
