I keep reading about how dear leader is dependent on China for many basics. Sure seems like they and they alone have the leverage to force him to moderate.

I heard something on the radio about how the Chinese are not in favor of his son taking power. Such dynasties are not in keeping with the spirit of communism, after all. And they are probably anxious for a real change.
There was an article a few days ago about Badhair Junior making a secret trip to China, but, somehow, I missed reading it. I will see if I can find it again.

Unfortunately, not as informative as I would have hoped.

Who knows. Kaddaffi's son looks, acts way more sane than his daddy. Maybe this son would be an improvement. If indeed he studied in Switzerland under a covert indentity, he might somehow be more well rounded than Dear Leader.

Hope springs eternal.

That is funny considering how dynastic the ChiComms are. Pretty much everybody in power now is the son of somebody who was in power and was the son of somebody who marched with Mao... The Soviets were not like that mainly because Stalin killed off all his comtemporaries

I think part of the importance of SK is just in keeping it out of Ill chong Ill's hands. IINM, there's better farmland in the south. And SK is going to be important to cold warriors for life as it's the legacy of the Korean war.

Rumsfeld and others love to point to satellite pics of the Korean peninsula at night. The north is dark, the south is lit up like Vegas. Not sure that's really something to be proud of, time will tell.

I can only imagine that many, most more likely, in the South have no desire to be under the rule of the steely eyed generals in the North and Dear Leader and his offspring. Dear Leader has demonstrated his affection for the south by using them as a pawn in power struggles with the rest of the world.

SK is probably the best example of free market capitalism in the world today.

It's an interesting place, though I've not been there. Just by accident I've had more contact with Korean Americans than many -- I lived for some years in the Zen center I helped rebuild and my teacher is from SK.

There's a bit of a push to get kids unhooked from video games as it's gotten sorta over the top in that score over there. And the politics can get pretty heated.

Koreans are sometimes referred to as the Italians of Asia as their food is more spicy than many surrounding countries. If you get a chance, go to a Korean restaurant sometime. Some wild dishes -- the whole presentation is unlike any other you've seen.
