Boycotting GM?

Rush really does want Obama to fail:
Quote:
Right-Wingers To Boycott GM?
By Eric Kleefeld - June 8, 2009, 2:27PM

The Detroit Bureau reports that an idea seems to be picking up some cachet on the right-wing blogs and in talk radio: Fighting the "Government Motors" bailout by boycotting the company. Most of it so far is limited to relatively little-known writers, but two big names have picked up on it: Hugh Hewitt, who wants to save free enterprise -- and Rush Limbaugh, who wants anything President Obama does to fail, and is urging his listeners to help push towards that goal.

"In the effort to reverse this lurch beyond the farthest left fringe of previous Democratic statist urges, individual Americans have a role to play. They have to say no to GM products and services until such time as the denationalization occurs," says Hugh Hewitt. He acknowledges that this is a serious step that could hurt people currently working for GM: "But there isn't any alternative, every dollar spent with GM is a dollar spent against free enterprise. Every car or truck purchased from Government Motors is one not purchased from a private car company that competes fairly against all other car companies."

Where Hewitt makes his point as a seemingly reluctant and composed agitator, Rush Limbaugh makes no bones about what he wants in his own praise of the idea. The most amazing thing here is that Limbaugh appears to be openly admitting that the purpose of this is economic and political sabotage -- to prevent President Obama from succeeding at something.

Limbaugh reassures any GM workers who might be listening that the boycotters aren't angry at them. "They don't want to patronize Obama. They don't want to do anything to make Obama's policies work!" he explains. "This is an untold story, by the way. Of course, the government-controlled media is not gonna report anything like this but there are a lot of people who are not going to buy from Chrysler or General Motors as long as it is perceived Barack Obama is running it, because people do not want his policy to work here because this is antithetical to the American economic way of life."

And this would be good for the country?

I'd want Obama to fail at nationalizing the industries and yes, I think it would be good for the country. Not now but in the long run.

The logic of the proponents is roughly the same used to justify wife beating.

I don't need the Government SELLING me nuts and bolts to keep my car together when that very same Government has a history of BUYING toilet seats and hammers for $600.00.

Now, how much would the Government Motors Union Upper Mucky-Monkeys get paid for kicking-back a part of their salaries to the Demo-coffers and forcing the rest of the AFL-CIO chain-gangers to "contribute" their salaries to the same PACs and candidates of their Shop-Stewards' choice?

Let's not even go anywhere near "Fair & Balanced" in this case...

I want to see "O" fail in this task...let the Phoenix of the Automotive Industry rise as a free bird...not some "Frankensteinish Roadkill Auto-bird" from the communistic gulaugs of Eastern Europe/Russian past...

Even the Russian Mafia is driving Mercedes...none of their own country's automotive trash...and we're just about ready to emulate the failed policies of a country that couldn't run an automotive industry themselves properly?

Well, we already own 60% of GM. We own a huge chunk of an industry nobody wants to lend money to and is losing market share daily.

Obama repeated an earlier promise; "to create or save 600,000 jobs by year end."

^^^ --Which is interesting.....because Obama does not substantiate on any U.S. government website, where he made the false claim of "creating 150,000 jobs thus far."

Which of course is just another falsehood Obama claimed today.

--What is not false, are the multitude of GM factory closures and associated job losses that tens of thousands of American workers have and will continue to endure under his running of GM. Somehow he fails to mention that fact.....

I don't really care what that bloated bag of hypocrisy has to say about anything.

I don't think he cares about the country, only himself and his ideology. If GM fails, it's bad for the country, if only because so much taxpayer money is already invested in it. Any intelligent American should want GM to succeed so that the government can sell its shares without a loss and get the hell out. But Rush can't have that because he can't accept that a government intervention could do any good. It's against his ideology.

I hope GM, Ford, and Dodge can get their crap together - it wasn't that they built crappy cars (keep your anecdotes to yourself - there's lots of horror stories out there about BMWs, MBs, Toyotas, Nissans, Kias, etc.), it was that they didn't know how to make a profit when they're carrying the weight of the UAW on their shoulders. I'd like to see GM, and Dodge come back online with what they were doing and what they were selling, change their company to be a much more efficient machine, and get back to selling whatever America/the World will buy - including SUVs if that's where the market is at. All companies exist to make a buck giving their customers what they want, and the big three had sales and they had visions/investments for the next generations of cars (less Dodge in this instance), but they needed more efficiencies to keep profitable. I'd like to see them do that.
