10 Cars That Last Forever?

It's pretty incredible that a diesel MB didn't make the list. Guess I can't believe all of those E-bay ads telling me that diesels always go at least 500k miles.

Tell me how the Mitsu Endeavor which only started in 2003 and the Prius made this list? I mean I have socks older than the first Prius!
Where are the MBs? Where are the original Beetles? 1960's Mustangs? Dodge Darts? Heck I see more Chrysler K cars than Endeavors on the road... What about 2CVs and original Minis? This list is ridiculous...

LUVMB and Kuan - right on the money!! The venerable slant six 225 that just would not die.

Dumb list. Besides the previously pointed out Prius and Endeavor, which have not been around long enough to know for sure, show me a Subaru wagon that isn't going to wear out the valve train well before it hits 200k, provided there is even a body left to sit in.

What a joke. I'm surprised he didn't include the Renault Daphine.

Interesting comment about the Dart. I had a '69 Custom for 38 years, it still looked and drove like new (only 101K miles). Best yet, I sold it for three times what it cost new.

dollars to doughnuts the guy who came up with that list is under 25 years old, and has never gotten grease under his fingernails while wrenching on his own car.
The slant six belongs, the Model A Ford certainly belongs.
An F 150 with the indestructible 240/300 cid straight six belongs. How do you leave the original Military JEEP off that list?
Not to mention Packard, or Cadillac, or any number of cars that author/poser never heard of because they were gone before he was born.

This list is very very wrong. Most of the cars on the list are fairly new and besides why didn't Mercedes and Volvo make the list? The world record for the most miles are held by a Mercedes and a Volvo.

It appears he approached the list in a very scientific manner - drove around and wrote down the names of cars he saw that looked old.

or a van. I had a van and that motor was indestructable. Ford should still put that in trucks as it isnt that bad on gas mileage and could still pull respectably. The van got about 18 mpg with synthetics in the trans and motor and the trans was a 3 speed.

Yeah pretty much....I can't believe the #1 was a subaru wagon....I see those broken down/rotted out/and clanking around all the time, even fairly new ones! I highly doubt they deserve the #1 last forever rating.

There are few cars as old MB's that can keep on going, even abused, like they do. Even my gasser MB with 139k on it, is 19 years old and still drives and runs like new....with mostly original parts. Show me a 19 year old most anything that's running that good! My sister's minivan is 10 years old with only 95k on it, and it runs/feels like a heap. It clicks, clanks, vibrates, shudders, whines, the interior panels are all falling off....its rusting everywhere....its terrible....I have my bets it won't make it another 10k miles....and its had a LOT of stuff replaced in those 95,000 miles!

I've seen plenty of Subarus over 200,000 miles, and a few over 300,000. I've also seen plenty of Hondas and Toyotas in that mileage range. Based on the percentage of cars I processed at the junk yard with over 300,000, I think the real winners for consistent high mileage longevity are Benz diesels and Ford Crown Vics.

Arrow Ford Crown Victoria

I am surprised the Ford Crown Victoria/Mercury Grand Marquis didn't make it, those old style body on frame, rear wheeldrive, cast iron V8 sedans and wagons can really take it, as this model raks up hundreds of thousands of miles in service by Police and Taxi service, as the heavy duty P71 Police Interceptors and Taxi model, also heavy duty.

I have owned them, they do run easily into triple digit mileage with no problem, and minimal upkeep expense.

I think American car companies perfected these vehicles, and these "dinosaurs" are the last surviving examples of this kind of car. They may be out of production by 2010, I have heard. They are built at "STAP", the St Thomas Assembly Plant, in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, across the bridge from Detroit.
