I'm gonna buy a gas guzzler

For $400 and then turn it in for $4500 rebate on a nice new car.

I'd do it too. Just be sure to read all the requirements, the legislators or whomever is in control of this scheme have probably figured out a way to make the idea scam proof...

On the downside, in my case I dont think I can trade in one old 3/4 ton diesel for a new one, I couldnt see going to owning a prius from my truck....

It has to have been registered and insured for at least a year in your name. So you'd spend quite a lot to get that $4500....

If you can get one for $500, how much is it for you to register and insure for a year? I bet you would still come out ahead, and have a cheap beater to drive for a bit.

Registration varies, but liability only for a $500 car wouldn't be much. You could collect cars like early 90's pickups, register (say $75) and insure for a couple hundred buck I bet.

You know that this is a voucher for a new car right? I guess its an incentive to absorb some of the depreciation of new cars but hardly enough to tickle my fancy.

You won't take $4500 off a new car? I would.
