Why I like Shopforum...

Well one reason is the amount of people here who respond to questions.
I had a pretty simple question about my Suburban that I posted on a GM truck forum.

The question was "what does your oil pressure gauge read at idle cold-hot, while running under load cold-hot, and after a good long run on the highway.

My 1999 with the Vortec 5.7 only hits 40psi on a cold engine, idles hot at about 19 psi, runs under load at only35-38psi and can go down to 0 after a long run when at idle. It picks up with fuel. My question was, is this gauge behavior a known issue? I am cluster issues with the fuel gauge and I am figuring this is another display problem and not an actual oil pressure problem. The engine runs fine, does not burn any oil etc.

I also asked if anybody has plumbed in a mechanical gauge as a backup.

Would you believe that I got NO RESPONSES? I mean nothing back. not even a "your car is toast" or "you are a moron for asking these questions" post.

Here if I asked anything about my MB, BMW, or probably even the above questions about the truck I will get responses.
This place is truly a global village!

Perhaps there is a better GMC forum out there, than the one you posted on?

Possibly but he does have a point. You can post a question on just about anything and get an answer fairly quickly.

Mine is like at 20ish at idle, hot, runs just above 40 when your going. But I have the V6.

I have never seen the guage below the 20ish mark.

I find that things like questions about the suspension find no lack of opinions over at the Miata forum, though there seems to be much less real hard knowledge over there and a derth of experience.

I often get better responses here regarding diagnosing problems on my Miata.

I bought a 34K mile salvage engine and had it installed. I got it back wednesday. Today it is sitting with a charging problem related to the engine installation. I need it fixed by next week end.

This winter I plan to go through the engine I pulled and make it as strong as I legally can and keep it in CS, and install it myself when I have plenty of time working an hour or two a night.

Thanks for asking.

I had a Buick Roadmonster with the analog cluster...the 5.7L ran at nearly zero pressure at hot idle, but it had to be really hot out. I was under the impression that the SBC runs at fairly low oil pressure anyway. Turns out the car was getting too hot, due to a bad fan clutch, once that was changed, it had SOME pressure at idle. I don't remember the exact numbers, I sold it a year ago. I tried 10w40 oil too, that helped a bit, but I think the car ran better on 10w30. I must confess, I was really thrown by a 5.7L engine using a small oil filter, and only holding something like 4.5 quarts of oil. Not exactly the German way of doing things...

I love this place because you guys except me just the way I am. I was cool on bwot until they decided that I was too stupid to be on their site. Hmmm I wonder why bwot's post's have gone way down since they let me go? does bwot owe me an unemployment check?

Yeah tell me about it, Chevy's idea of an oil filter is a joke.

Your Suburban's oil pressure issue is Dick Cheney's fault. Now that Obama runs GM, those problems will go away.
