Has anyone been able to "fix stupid"?

Just wondering after a frustrating morning with a friend.

Several times...no matter what tatics are used there doesn't seem to be anything that works. I've tried charts, logic and just plain dumbing down of facts and have still gotten nowhere.

If I could share a not too long bit from the Tao Teh Ching that's stuck with me on this point:

The most intelligent leaders inflence their followers without them realizing they are being influenced.

The less intelligent try to influence others with appeals to loyalty, self interest, or flattery.

Those less intelligent still try to force others to improve by making them fear they will not receive their reward.

The worst try to force others to improve by condemning their conduct.

Before you can fix stupid, you gotta do something about "stubborn" and "willful"

Today I'm driving down Capital Way in Oly WA where I'm visiting. I'm doing the limit and an SUV gets right up on my ass, about a car length back. Up about 50 yards, the light turns red so I take my foot off the gas and coast. The guy gets closer. Plenty of room to change to the other lane. He doesn't do so. I point, in a large manner, and in a repetitious fashion to the other lane, the right lane. He goes around me, giving me a dirty look as he does so. Looks to be mid-20s.

Wrong, dude. I flip him off vigorously, the arm upraised into the palm of the other along with the middle digit. Not the smartest thing to do but this guy is a nimrod. He goes up and gets just as close to the next guy. Maintains that posture for the next 3 or 4 blocks. One guy in front of him slows to turn right. He came real close to that car.

I wanted to have a chance to pull along side at a stop light and ask him if he's been driving long and if he's ever heard of the concept of tail-gating. Didn't get the chance.

Maybe, maybe in 10 or 20 years, a glimmer of enlightenment on this score will flicker in his dim watted brain. That word is maybe.

Gotcha beat Cmac with one from just the other day.

On my way to the meet in NJ on Saturday i'm cruising in the middle lane at a nice steady 70, nothing special. A few miles in front of me I can see that there is a Honda SUV probably doing around 60 so i'm ever so slowly closing the gap between us. By the time I get to within 1,000 feet of him i'm about a mile from my exit so I switch to the right lane in peperation. I'm still going the same speed this entire time....As I slowly cruise past him he beeps the horn at me so that I look back at him...he's widly flipping ME off. I just kept going, laughing all the way to my exit.

I've seen some reckless things before, but this one was just plain stupid and pointless. If I ever saw him I wouldn't even know what to say, I'm still trying to figure that one out...

Problem is they keep making cars safer. Back in the day of steel dashboards douche's like this removed themselves from the gene pool.

You cannot completely absolve yourself on that one.

Passing on the right is not a proper move.........despite his clearly slow speed for the center lane.

I never really appreciate those that choose to move right and pass..........I usually put them in the category that is the title of the thread.

This is especially true when I have the van.........it's got very poor visibility on the right and, one of these days, I know that I'm likely to hit some moron who chose to pass there.

So, maybe your own behavior needs some reexamination.

That thread redefines the word "stupid". I cannot even state what those people have become..............
