Who do you want to control the country ?
Government ?
Corporations ? We the people ? ............................................ I believe we are at a tipping point in history. We seem to have reached a fork in the road. The next few months will tell us if our economy will recover or not. There are warnings of rampant inflation, and the possibility of a new found stability. Either way we will be choosing a new path for our country. What shall it be ? Facisim ? Socialism ? Communism ? Democracy ?

One of the problems, as I see it, with a large, very powerful federal government is that it attracts all kinds of attention. Corporations MUST pay attention to what the government might due as every action can impact business. Special interest groups and lobbyists all come to the seat of power to protect their interests.
Devolving government, moving more of the decisions to the local and state level would dilute the power of all those special interest groups. That would be good for "We, the People".

I don't see much chance for 'we the people' controlling the government unless they first control the corporations which have the $$$ to control the government.

We are not at a crossroads. Nobody has ever CHOSEN socialism, it is being forced upon them. Who has voluntarily given up freedom?
Our population is however, so stupid, to elect someone who promised them the good life, without having to earn it. The entitlement mentality, long the bastion of minorities/democrats, is expanding. The baby boomers made it to easy on the following generations. Now it is not a question of aiming high, they don't even know where the target is.

You can only trust any of them a little...some less.

I'll take extra taxes to pay for "socialized" health care, if I can get rid of the insurance companies and their ways. Consider what you actually pay. Be sure to add your employer's contribution, if you get your insurance through work. It is substantial. Only the high-earners (such as myself!) will see a net decrease in pay. But mine won't be extreme, and the security of knowing that I still have coverage if I lose my job is worth it. |

That much might be true, but there is less chance for one corporation to influence ALL the state and local governments.

So, which corporations are in control right now via government influence?

Seriously, none of the choices are all that appealing. Fascism Socialism Communism Democracy #1 We might have a more efficient government under Fascism, but who wants a police state? Contrary to popular belief Fascism is NOT National Socialism. Fascists are not racist or anti-semetic by definition. Mussolini did not gas Jews. NAZI'ism takes Fascism to a whole 'nother level with it's own mythos of the master race. Fascism was supposed to be a rational scientific approach, similar to Socialsm or Communism, but with private property. #2 Socialism is just another form of Fascism in a way. In any case it is a curtailment of freedom as 'the good of them many outweighs the good of the few' It is a refuge of the have nots as they think tey can take from the haves. Funny thing is the haves ultimately run out of stuff and become have nots looking for their handouts and the system goes bankrupt. #3 Communism has never actually been tried in it's true form, except ona very small scale and will not work as long as there are humans around. We all work for ourselves which is why Fascism and Socialism need secret police and curtailment of freedom to work. #4 Democracy. Here is the rub, we as a people love to mouth about democracy, but we don't really have it and to tell you the truth we as a people are too stupid to handle all the pressures and responsibilities a true democracy would entail. We now have the technology to make a true democracy work in our nation. we could put all major legislation up to a public referendum and have a direct democracy these days, but that would last only until some smart aleck put a referendum on "Make me dictator and I will give each of you 1 million dollars" and enough people would vote 'OK' and that would be the end of that... What we have is a flawed representational republic but is has worked lurching from disaster to disaster for 200+ years. What we need to change is the composition of those representatives, not the Constitution
