Hot tub disposal question
We bought a house. House has a hot tub. Hot tub is in a room. Room had (now fixed) a leaky roof. Cedar panel walls and plywood ceiling (standard doug fir from the looks of it) have mild water damage in a couple small places.
The hot tub looks to be a 6 seater, probably 1990-1992 vintage based on what we know of the house's history. No obvious issues with the hot tub, other than the positively rank water in it. Went from "yeah that smells damp" to "hoary clap where's the hazmat suit" under the heavy (as in walk on-able) cover after the selling bank added 'winterizing fluid' just before we bought the place. We've not lifted the cover since December so the smell stays in the tub . Darling Wife and I are torn on what to do with the tub. On one hand, it could make for a fun place to hang out on occasion. On the other hand, it would be nice to have the room it's in for other uses (workshop + laundry room is one possible plan). Getting rid of the damn thing is the challenge. The room it's in is an add on to the house. And it was added on after the tub was dropped in place. One standard size door into the house, one standard size door to the outside. As far as I can tell, getting tub out of room means firing up the sawzall - and either taking it to the tub so it'll fit through the door, or taking it to one of the walls to make a tub sized opening so it can be hauled out. FWIW, one wall is house, so it is off limits. The other three walls are stick frame with clapboard siding outside, cedar paneling inside. And windows - basically wall to wall vinyl framed windows everywhere except where the door to the outside is. Before the roof was fixed, I suggested a chain be run between a corner of the room and the back end of the wagon, but Darling Wife vetoed that idea. Any suggestions? Votes for cutting up the wall vs. cutting up the tub? If we make a tub sized hole in the wall, how the hell does one move one of these monsters?

drain it and pull it over onto it's side. That is how they deliver them...
They only weigh a couple hundred pounds dry. However, once you get the bad water out -- also where does it drain to? -- why not clean it up and use it if it works. A six person tub is a few grand. Mine cost me $6500 back in 2002. When I sold the house the new owner insisted I leave it or the deal was off. I charged him 8k for it and he was happy - stupid, but happy

if it's a 6 seater or more,it weighs alot more then a couple hundred pounds.my hot springs jetsetter(which is a 2-3 seater)weighs just shy of 500 lbs empty.but as previously mentioned, stand it on it's side and it should go out the door.but if it's pretty good shape other then the water i'd keep it.i use mine daily,i'll be heading there in about an hour or so.i love setting outside staring up at the stars

X2 for sure.
Speaking from the experience of going through nearly the exact same situation on a house I flipped a few years ago. I second that idea for sure. We got a little 110V water pump from Northern Tool. Emptied the thing out a window and into the street via a 5/8” garden hose. Didn’t take long. Sprayed the thing down with Clorox and water just to be (feel anyway) safe. Pulled off trim from around it. Pulled out the pump, heater, controls and whatever we could from under it. Took a saws-all to it (WEAR A MASK !!) and it (in chunks) went out the window and into a dumpster within 30 minutes. - Shelby BTW - They weigh more than they look. Some of our "chunks" were pushing 100+lbs easy.

I agree with others on using a sawzall...
Just be careful. It can solve alot of problems easily, but it can create many new ones if your not paying attention...

I'd clean it up, getting it running again, put a huge flat screen on the wall and enjoy it.

An update.......
1) No way in H E double hockey sticks this thang is going out through a door. It's 8+ feet square. 2) Darling Wife reminded me that Paul (guy in the house closest to ours - which used to be a dance hall, but that's a whole 'nother story) watched PO of our house build the room around the hot tub. In 2001. So it's a decade or so newer than I thought it was. I credit her youth for the far superior short term memory. 3) I have developed a greater interest in keeping the tub intact. Aforementioned youth of Darling Wife (and her totally wonderful sense of fun) just might have had something to do with this change of "heart." So the focus shifts to picking a wall to carefully demo (removal of 3 windows, cedar paneling, & clapboard siding; temporary relocation of the electric; figuring out how to keep the roof from falling down when the studs are pulled, etc) and deciding how much can be/needs to be disassembled so that this monster can be moved.

Are you going to set it up outside?
Inside the house would be neat, but I prefer outdoor hot tubs so you can look at the sky while relaxing. ... plus then it wouldn't be a problem to have the occasional cigar and single malt.
