Talking Got a good deal at Lowes today!

I scored 7 bathroom faucets, normal sticker $46 for... $11.50 each. I was only disapointed they didn't have more, I would have bought whatever they had at $11.50.

They look just like the Delta's I normaly use but they don't cost $60 each. The only downside is they use plastic drains which crack and suck, the contractor grade Delta's use metal. Lowes grade do not. I can probably get just the metal drain for $20 from our supply house, so even if I upgrade the drain I still save 50%.

I love saving money! If you catch Lowes right you can get some real fire sales! I have bought ceiling fans for $10 each too. The trick is you have to get them as they are putting the deals out, before people like me come along. Last time they changed their fan display we bought 8 fans from them for $10-$15 a pop. The fugly style ones we stick in my uncles rentals.

However, the fact remains that Lowe's is an evil corporation. I worked there...I'd know. I always get in on their "lighting reset"....you can score a lot of REAL expensive light bulbs (many years supply worth) for about 90% off a lot of them. I bought 16 of those little undercabinet halogen replacements (the tiny kind with pins G8 style) for 54 cents apiece....normal price...$4.99. I still have 12 left! Lots of other stuff too.

Yeah they do suck, but they drove all the little guys out of business. So were stuck.

Their lumber yard is a real joke, I have never seen such garbage pawned off as real wood. Last time I needed a couple of 16ft 2x4's their pile was all twisted up like noodles! Said screw it and just drove to the lumber yard.

OTOH their light section is pretty good. I wish I could get in on there "lighting reset". I'd buy every fixture and bulb in the store at those prices. We go through a few light fixtures every year.

When I worked there at our store the lighting reset actually took place the last couple weeks of July....so you might want to check in....I might check ours...

As for lumber....totally true. They used to "cull" the wood on a daily basis, know what they do with it? They stuff it in the trash compactor! Lowes is an environmentally destructive monster. They'd throw whole tubs....grills....huge amounts of recyclables into the dumpster/compactor. It was unbelievable. They would fill a compactor container the size of a 53' semi trailer every week they generate so much waste. Sometimes more often!! Pretty much the only thing they bother recycling is card board, and that is because a waste to energy facility buys the bales from them to use in a power/heat station.

They must know this...

...I went to HD recently, and every associate I met practically kissed my butt the whole time!

One guy did it three times on different occasions, apparently not recognizing that I was the same guy from the last two encounters!

Once at Lowe's I scored a brass bar sink and faucet set for $20!!!

I was going to throw that comment in before you said it. We used to have Hechingers in the Washington, DC area and Home Depot ran them out of business (with a lot of help from the management at Hechingers), once hechingers was gone, it was as if Home Depot figured they didn't have to really try anymore. Lowes is WAY better than HD.

The HD around here has really stepped up the Customer Service too.....they are a lot better than they were even a couple years ago.

Lowes is over rated....last time I went there it took me 15 minutes to find someone to cut some cable for me off the spools. I avoid them at all costs. Usually I go to Menards....those are fairly local though, just MI, WI, OH, IN, IL....I think....

Well since I pretty much live in these stores, I find that they both sell junk. But Lowes customer service in my area is better, and you can actualy ask questions. The staff at HD pretty much is clueless, but at Lowes they usualy know what their talking about.

OTOH they both suck for commercial users, we get no discount. They only offer you a commercial CC at a crazy high interest rate. When I used to work on boats West Marine would charge you whole sale if you had a commercial account.

The light fixtures really suck in my experience. They are so poorly made and made of such cheap materials that they do not last long at all. Considering that they don't move or contain any moving parts, I find that amazing.

Asking questions at either store is a waste of time and breath. I have found that Lowe's lighting dept carries a better line of lighting fixtures, and they occasionally give things away when the box gets damaged. (got three Delta bathroom faucets - two handle versions - for $5 apiece, a Bosch AE125 water heater for $300, and all the marble tile in my kitchen for .99/sq ft) For lumber, I haven't found anywhere in the east coast that doesn't seem to be in the business of selling wood for building canoes. As likely as not it is a result of the very slow building market here, in Colorado, my local Home Depot carried great lumber, and had actually had a few people at the pro counter that knew which end of the hammer to hold, but ...not here...not now. Just make sure that you make them check their price against each other if you think it should be less. Recently got HD to lower the price of the 100 landscape timbers I was buying by $1.10 apiece. That kept me in beer until I was done installing all of them.

Yeah you have to watch them like hawks at the register. They don't always ring up sale items as such.

Most of the lumber yards around here have horrible wood to, you have to hunt. My uncle is always after them and sending stuff back.
