All aboard! my homeless is now yours.

New York City Trying to Ship Out the Homeless

NEW YORK (AP) -- Paris? Orlando? San Juan? New York City is buying one-way plane tickets for homeless families to leave the city.

It's part of a Bloomberg administration program to keep the homeless out of the expensive shelter system, which costs $36,000 a year per family. More than 550 families have left the city since 2007. All it takes is for a relative to agree to take them in.

The city employs a travel agency to book one-way tickets for domestic travel and the Department of Homeless Services handles all international travel.

City officials say there are no limits on where a family can be sent and families can reject the offer and stay in city shelters.

So far, families have been sent to 24 states and 5 continents, mostly to Puerto Rico, Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas.

City officials say none of the relocated families have returned to city shelters.

Back in the 1970's, it was common practice for a few states to send them here, since Hawaii was one of the first states with indigent healthcare.

Recently, California was paying folks' travelling expenses if they were on welfare and wanted to move out of state.

Say, now here's a thought. Maybe some farmers can take a family or two of them in. They can work the fields and perform some domestic chores for their keep. Since they were homeless then they won't require much as far as the matter of shelter and food goes. Maybe a row of shanties for them to live in and some boiled corn meal mush with a few bits of meat for flavor. They're homeless so there would be no need to give them a day off or educate them because they won't be using either. I suppose, since they were being fed and sheltered by the owners, any "li'l" ones which came along would quite naturally be the property, err I mean responsibility, of the landowners.

Oh wait, I think this was the norm in serfdom. Never mind.

I could never figure out why anyone would be homeless in cold climates, then I remembered that most homeless can't figure.

Never understood that either.

My city has been known to buy them bus tickets to FL. The last mayor loved getting rid of them.

Here is a trick some have used in SD where the winters can be bad. Crime. I go to your house and pretend to rob it, get arrested and now I have 3 hots and a cot, courtesy of the state.

There's just no pleasing those East Coasters! We try to ship them our illegals who are begging to work and they scream bloody murder! However, they have a shiz-pot full of freeloaders and they think it's okay to just dump them on other people.

Hell, our guys are willing to pack 20 people in a truck but theirs get to fly!

Sigh, what ever happened to the good old days. Stick their butts onto train box cars, give them a few bags of rice and beans, a couple cans of Sterno, some picks and shovels, tents, a treasure map of Alaska and an introductory letter to whomever is governor of Alaska now.

p.s., I remember reading the Polar bears' and Grizzlies' food resources have been getting stretched thin due to global warming. Could be killing two birds with one stone, so's to speak!

The Bay Area is well versed in receiving homeless people from other municipalities. Weather is mild, tourists are many, and local statutes are not too oppressive.

Sort of a drag, especially when people from elsewhere carry on about how many homeless people there are here.
