what's up guys...

hey guys name is kyle from NJ. i just picked up my first Mercedes for basicly a song and a dance, an 83 300SD w/ 226k on it. starts on first crank and is surprisingly clean for a NJ vehicle. i'm not new to diesel's though. i currently have a 2005 chevy duramax and a 92 cummins engine in a 2001 chevy pick up.

plans for this are to convert it to veggie and drive it daily. i live 50mi from work so this will save me tons of $$$.
anyway here are some pics of the benz and my other trucks.

in the making.

Hello, and welcome.

That Chevy looks pretty mean.

That SD you picked up looks very similar to one of my friends locally. With some TLC, it should be a good looking car.

With regard to that Mercedes diesel model, your biggest concern should be rust and body integrity. Once you set things right, and get past that, you then need to understand that with that vehicle, you need to discard all previously held ideas about "old" and High Mileage"

Once brought up to speed, (mechanically and cosmetically), you basically have a lifetime car.

You heard me.

It will easily surpass 500,000 miles and 1,000,000 are in sight. The W126 series is among the best built Mercedes Benz series ever, parts are always available, they are easy to work on, they are good looking, safe, durable, reliable, and high quality machines. They were engineered and built to a "cost-no-object" standard and the German engineers, *not* the cost accountants) were let loose to build the best car that they could.

You have two benefits ALREADY you may not know about. Calling 1-800-FOR MERCEDES will get you a free flat tire repair, battery jump start, and a couple of gallons of gas if you run out.

Further, a free lovely high mileage badge and presentation package is yours with proof of ownership, download the form and take it to any Mercedes Benz dealer and sign off on it, and it will be mailed to you.

Badges are available at 155,000 miles (250,000 kms) and 312,000 miles (500,000 kms) and above.

The cars are EXPECTED to run this long.

If I were you, I would not go into "veggie" oil conversions unless you are VERY familiar with the problems and issues that can arise with this endeavor, have plenty of garage space for filtering, in your garage, understand the damage that animproper conversion can do to your car, and you don't mind fighting over who gets the WVO at midnight with other Waste Vegetable Oil enthusiasts behind the dumpsters at chinese restaurants, Mc Donalds and KFC establishments

Good luck. Your slammed Chevy truck is cool!!!!

thanks a bunch jim.

yea i have a good friend that has 3 of these. we've been talking about me getting one for a long time. his has 310k on it and 80k on veggie alone. his other 2 have over 500k.

the free fuel is the main reason i did it. i drive ALOT and this was just a wise investment on my part. i will save over 100$ a week in fuel alone. not to mention less strain on my dmax.

i/we have plenty of space to make the fuel believe me lol. and we have at least 10 places between us that we can get oil from.

i never knew about the free flat deal, that's awesome!!

the rust on the 1/4 is the only rust on the car. i'll fix it down the road but, it's fine for me now. i'm gonna wash her up tomorrow and see how well it shines.

Howdy and Welcome !!

What conversion ???
IT'S SUMMER TIME !!!

You say: “...make the fuel...”.
Are you doing the BioDiesel thing?
Or, the WVO thing?

I’m big into the WVO thing.
Just filtering good WVO, adding some RUG when needed (maybe a biocide too) and away I go.

Not into the filtering, chemical separations, glycerin, heating, additives…. All that high techno chemistry stuff.

Just curious.

Nice truck!! Make sure you lift up the inner lining in the left of your trunk...you might have a nasty surprise! Exactly what happened to me with my little behind-the-LR-wheel spot. Nice car, welcome to the board!

Welcome to the forum. Your trunk's ajar, and your truck is missing it's shocks or springs.

You'll love the highway ride of the SD.

RUG = reg unleaded gas.

ahh cool.

i did manage to do a little to the car this weekend.
i went to the junk yard this weekend to see what goodies i could find. found a mint interior blue and all, but the tops of door panels are beat. there aren't even any cracks in the seats!! he told me $100 bucks for the pair.

BUT nothing good comes w/o something bad. i did manage to loose my key for truck while there though. so i had to wait 3 hrs till my dad could bring me my spare.

i did manage to get a little done on the car though. cleaned the chit outta the interior, fixed some rust in the trunk, put a new radio in, figured that i need a new winder motor, blocked the egr and some vaccum lines and cleaned out that banjo bolt. i think i'm gonna do the valves this week too.
