Ha! I didn't know that there was a website devoted to such a thing.

I do enjoy making fun of hipsters, myself. AND, I think I should be allowed to, since I once ventured too closely into that realm...although, it was a few years ago, before the "movement" really started to get ridiculous.

Just teasing -- I've been there too... not my finest moment. C-U has a good share of them down around campus. A number of them in some semblance of a hipster bicycle gang blocked my progress last time I had the gall to commute up there in an AUTOMOBILE. Some sort of mini-Critical Mass ride or something.

Ugh, tell me about it! Urbana is hipster paradise (although it's a nice town minus them, too)

I know what you mean about the critical mass...what's the point!? It's a college campus, TONS of people ride their bikes already. I guess they just don't realize that they are preaching to the choir.

Basically, stay away from Caffe Paradiso if you don't want to see any of them when you are in town!

I was pretty indifferent towards them as a whole, until I met the guy that rented my apartment last year..he came over all smug and stuff, and he was wearing the dumbest, 1800s French sailor man-pri shorts I've ever seen. Ha! After that, it was war :)

He asked if he could move in early, and I said no, unless he could deal with my death metal on a daily basis. I never heard from him again :D

On a side note, I'd much rather deal with a hipster than the overly tanned, spiked hair, armani graphic tee wearing guys that plague ALL of Chicagoland, where I unfortunately have to move back to on Tuesday.

:devil: BRUTAL!! I get similar reactions but I think in Philadelphia people are pretty open to different styles and music. Cruise around blasting metal (double bass from the subs :D) and you'll either get a thumbs up or a dirty glance. Part of it may have to do with it NOT being rap blasted from the subs. Usually its not too loud either, only enough to hear when you're pulled up at a stoplight, but still.

Oh yeah... the pretty people. Love them, too.

At least hipsters can have semi-decent taste in music, and sometimes ride interesting bikes.

I'll agree with you on that, although when they get cocky about it, that's when I draw the line. Unfortunately, most of them are; thus, true hipsters!

yeah, I hate it when I get into an argument with a dbag hipster over music. They are everywhere at community college.. its like "look at me, I go to CC, I work sometimes, piss and moan how broke I am, drink PBR and natty light because its cool to drink it and get **** faced, and I blast my mostly horribly music from my vw's stock speakers because the distortion is cool!"

You said it. The C-U hipsters have also destroyed the bike market in the area. Ever looked at CL pricing on old roadbikes in the area? Geez... all the cool kids want an old lugged steel frame, so a garden variety Fuji 10 speed is suddenly worth $200.

I tried to pay a compliment to a kid on a single speed conversion once and got a lecture in return. I didn't bother tipping him off that I built one, too, and had probably spent about a tenth as much on my whole project. Oh well; whatever.

Those fixed gear kids are out of control! Seriously though, they "double park", use industrial sized chains to lock them up (that they wear as a belt or sash when not in use), roll up their skin tight pant leg that would never get anywhere near the crank even if they tried, etc. :)

Also, yes, the bike market here is pretty bad. I luckily got my oldie for $100. There are two infamous, hardcore older bike guys who live on my street. Talk about lecturing from them!! :rolleyes: I don't know if you know either of them, one is Bruce and the other is Brent.

and all these years I thought it was male pattern baldness.
