How to Restore Licence Plates?
 
Hi everybody in this forum,
well the other day I was cruising in my car, and a cop stoped me because my numbers and letters in the licence plates are fading away.
It is those licence plates from the 80's blue backgroung with yellow letters and numbers. The cop told me I could buy the paint in any autoservice store, but I have been having trouble finding it. Anyways I have to fix it before the 31st of this month and I haven't find it, if any of you guys know where to buy the paint I would really appreciate it.

There is no official "license plate" paint, per se. You just need to match it.

Go to an autoparts store and get the touchup paint with the small brush in it. It won't be the best job, butthat is the cheapest way.

Otherwise, Darryl's license plate restoration, as advertised in Hemmings, will restore both for around $200.

Or... go to licenseplates.tv and get two new ones made. Yes, made.
They are exact copies. About $180/set.

Thanks for the site. But unfortunately they don't ship to California. :rolleyes:

If you know somebody out of state, you can have the license plate shipped there and then to your place. But if you have a limited time it might not make it, not sure how long it takes for the plates to be made.

Is this a special historical plate? In MI they will make you a new plate of what you have for $5....

You can get new plates but they will not be the old colors.

Here in Illinois you can order plates directly from DMV for like 20 dollars you just fill out form that you lost it, got stolen or it is damaged show proof of ownership and they send you "new" old plates. Why not get them from state after all they make them.

Be super careful with those touchup paints from autozone, the colors on the caps NEVER match the actual paint inside. Be prepared to return at least twice to fi d the right paint color with those gat dang things. Good luck!
