need to repower a pressure washer
Hey guys, I cant find anywhere, a place where I can type the model and type of my very old briggs and stratton engine, into a site and it tells me what my options are for a new engine. the pressure pump is good and makes all the pressure I need so I want to just repower it..
So if you guys know of an easy site for this please let me know.. thanks

Captain,
All these pressure washers pretty much have the same bolt pattern and shaft size. All you need to do is pull the pump off the engine, verify the measurements of the 4 bolt mounting and measure the diameter and length of the shaft. Northern Tool and other online sites have a good selection of engines to choose from.

thanks guys
Good deal guys thanks, we have plenty of Northen tools, one more question ,
on the water side of things do they build the pumps to a rated horsepower? lets say this thing had a 5 hp engine and i find a great deal on a an 8 hp, would I shorten the life of the water pump with the added horsepower?

Not necessarily, but the problem you'll have is that an 8 HP engine is going to have a larger crankshaft than is available on a 5HP engine. What is wrong with the original engine? Repairing it will most likely be the cheapest option.

Most B&S motors have a 6 digit engine code - grab that from the motor and it will help. googling around for a while will find you a parts list (or that engine/replacement) for sale on various outdoor power equipment company websites.
I agree with what has been said about the bolt pattern and shaft sizes - its been my experience (I am currently repowering a chipper-vac) that if you had a 5hp and you get another 5hp motor (from the same manuf) then 75% of the time they'll line up/bolt up without measuring/looking (not that I'd trust these odds...) Bolt patterns should be similar - assuming you dont try to buy a horizontal shaft engine and mount it vertically (or vice versa) - I wouldnt try this ever. Shaft sizes come in a few standard sizes for 5hp, I'm gonna guess that most are 1" shafts with a 1/8" key - this should not be difficult to find. If you can bring the pump into the store with you, you might be able to test fit it onto a motor right there in the store, and be sure that it'll fit. I think I like small engines more than car-sized ones.... -John
