I can print again!
Finally got out to buy a new one. HP P2055dn, pretty much equivalent to my old one, but with more memory, a faster processor and an uglier case. HP has them at $75 off this month, and Office Depot has a special $50 rebate if you bring them a printer to recycle. Plus, due to a computer error on their part (I'm sure), I was able to get the display unit with no box for 10% off. Their computer wouldn't let me order it, saying that it was discontinued, so they sold me their display unit. It had printed 4 pages before I saw it, according to the status page, so I'm happy with that. I even bought the $40 extended warranty, which is something that I pretty much never do, because the guy said that it would cover lightning strikes. I'll have to check out the policy tomorrow to be sure; if not, I'll have the normal three days to rescind. Now we are only missing one television receiver and my garage radio receiver. The Benz is still running fine too. |
All the new HP printers (except the HUGE ones) are made in China, yuck. That is why I stick to the older ones....high quality, built in California. Back when I worked at my college, the number of errors and failures with the printers went up dramatically when all the new China junk came in for the new lease cycle. HP should be ashamed of themselves.

You rarely find the gem that is a good machine, has available media, and isn't worn out. I can't be bothered trying to do it, when I can go to the store and get something that works. Add to that the fact that I want specific features (duplex, wired networking and Postscript), and the used selection gets even worse.
I'm not knocking your methods, though. I was young once, but now I'll spend a significant sum to save each hour of my time. |
