There are a few simple tests that doctors use to declare that the person is dead. Will the fertilized egg be considered alive if we use those tests? Yes, if you want to ask if it is living tissue, it is. Much like the wart or tumor. Alive as in whether it has the same capacity as you or I, somehow, I can't see that. But like I said, if we use the same tests that doctors use to declare death, how would it stand? Beliefs aside.

The test docs use to see if someone is alive/dead is one that measures brain activity. A fetus does exhibit brain activity. The brain is one the first things that develops in a fetus.
