Did you see the Kostnic interview with Chris Matthews ?
He was way outgunned. (pun intended)

Pretty entertaining.

Quite possible.

That, or maybe Obama wasnt where people thought he was.

This sort of thing is in bad taste and is in fact stupid, as it may result in impetus for a whole host of new gun laws.

That is an interesting point. Could that guy be a poser? Could he have been doing this for that particular reason alone?

Question with respect to RichC and his broad brush. How does this compare to the Robert Pickett who actually discharged shots? I find that interesting since there is some similarities. He did write a few letters to Bush about some grievances. Both Presidents were just into their term.

Or McVeigh, Kopp, Oswald, Sirhan, Ray, Roeder?

My point was simple. We have nutballs on both sides of the aisle. What's yours? That the left is the only sane group in existence?

McVeigh wasn't a Presidential Assassin. Also, he has identified himself as a libertarian. Supposedly he was converted from a republican to a libertarian. Have they too gone of the deep end?

You offered only 2 examples. How does that go to both sides?
But I agree your point was simple-very simple.

Newscom

Milling about among protesters outside a convention center in Arizona where Barack Obama was speaking on Monday, were about a dozen people carrying guns, the Associated Press reports. One of the protesters had a semi-automatic rifle slung over his shoulder. “In Arizona, I still have some freedoms," the man said when asked why he was carrying the rifle. Increasingly, protesters have been showing up with guns at the president’s speaking events to make a statement about their Second Amendment rights. At Obama's town-hall meeting in New Hampshire, a man carried a gun strapped to his leg while holding a sign that read, "It is time to water the tree of liberty." "It's a political statement," he told The Boston Globe. "If you don't use your rights, then you lose your rights." Arizona is an "open-carry" state, where you don't need a license to carry a gun in public as long as it isn't concealed. The leader of a group against gun violence said bringing a gun to a political event “makes the situation dangerous for everyone.”

Oh please, they guy was NOT breaking any laws and was taking a stand showing that the 2nd Amendment still does mean something. If the local cops and the SS did nothing, then there was no threat. The threat would be if some nut job SNEAKS an unlicensed pistol into range like in 1981.

It was perfectly legal for him to open carry like that -- Heck the Black Panthers were the ones who discovered that carrying a semi-auto rifle was perfectly legal in Ca, so they went around with them on their backs too...

Of course the anti-gunners will say "But he HAD a weapon, OMG, take it from him, anybody who wants a gun MUST be insane and therefore should not have one"

I agree, these guys are not breaking any laws.
I did not say they were.

And I would not be breaking any laws if I had dinner on the roof of my house
dressed in a duck costume.

----------------

No one has answered the question in the origional post yet.

How long untill one of these guys shoots the president ??

Or

How long before they start shooting at other protesters ?

You notice nobody is standing near the fellow with the gun.

I certainly would not want to be near him....although the sniper would not likely miss.

If I were to see anybody walking around with a gun in the open I naturally would not want to be near them in any case...president nearby or not.

L.H. Oswald was a leftie ex-communist who defected TO the Soviet Union, then came back. He never made a political statement about why he shot JFK.

Sirhan Sirhan's motives as put down in Wikipedia: According to Sirhan's mother, Mary Sirhan, he killed Kennedy because of his Arab nationalism. She said, "What he did, he did for his country." Further, Sirhan believed he was deliberately betrayed by Kennedy's support for Israel in the June 1967 Six-Day War,[9] which had begun exactly one year before the assassination. After his arrest, a spiral-bound notebook was found containing this diary entry, several others, and many nonsensical streams of consciousness scribbles.

If I recall Arab Nationalism and the hatred of Israel are pretty left wing...

I don't recall J. E. Ray being politically motivated either. He just hated King. I do not know if he was right wing or not. He was a habitual criminal but never made any political statements.

You also forgot John Hinckley, Jr. Another non-political nut case.

All in all I do not think we have had a POLITICALLY DRIVEN assassination since McKinley. You can add Leon Frank Czolgosz to your list, although since he was an Anarchist, does that mean he was leftie or rightie?

OK let the tasing begin...
